Broke down and got Beckett again

Beckett on-line price guide is fine...for some things. Absolute no-nos though are valuations on auto and vintage cards. if you do trade an auto card on here, then you pretty much have to get an auto card back, since if your auto is under-valued, then likely so to is what you will be offered to you, so it balances out. But under no circumstances would you even entertain trading autos for inserts....since virtually any insert you take, you can probably buy it for about half BV if you're patient.
Vintage...problem here is many guys will trade vintage and expect top end valuations, but really very few truly ARE Near mint. If there's scuffing on the front of the card, I dont care what your corners are, then that card is worth maybe half of what BV says.
All that is to say is, Beckett has a time and a place. Good for inserts, newer cards, and perhaps as a ball park figure, but that's about it.

What do you pay for the online price guide? As I know folks who have been paying this for over 20 30 years.

I use beckett mostly for research on these "older" GU/JSY cards just to get an idea of what something might be worth. Have not tried Card Ladder yet. I heard there might be a free-trial?

As a set builder of OPC and S1/S2, I do a lot of trades for low end cards and I find the Beckett online price guide to be the best and most consistent tool for putting together a trade of equal value for both parties, especially when the trade involves upwards of a 100 cards or more.

I guess I am old school and it like when I was a kid. Just trade what makes you happy and helps another person out. In the end dollars and cents do not matter to me. Of course with some of the set truly having high numbers, sp's, that could offset the value if your worried about dollars then that might be the way to go. Might not be bad to have a pricing for one sport but if you do a full model subscription probably going to cost ya about 30 a month. Too, me that just a free blaster or like two hobby boxes you could pick up for free if you did not have a price guide.

I use ebay and 130 point as they are both free. Of course card ladder and possibly terapeak are the best if you truly want data. SCI is newer and will be great as they get more data into their inventory as they keep tracked of all the sales from their inception but do not have the old data. Trust me I am in your boat as I sell a lot of older game used and I sell them cheaply. Paying off my house and I do not do ebay and short change myself from time to time but it a hobby. Example I have some sealed product that if you search the internet you cannot find any for sale but when you look for comps you have to use cardladder or other sources and the most recent sale is years ago. So, again how do you know what the market will bear as the market fluctuates and if there not been a comp in years you have to GUESS. Just enjoy the hobby the way that makes sense for you.

Thanks is that for a full fledge service as I know they have so many options when you price it. I used to get the magazine religiously as personally I enjoyed the articles in the past. Now it is all about dollar and cents without much content LOL.
