Also I wanted to point out that Manning threw 3 INT's in 3 of his first four games to include his first start ever. Here's an interesting tid-bit on some of the all time great QB's first games or first season stats:

Favre first game- 0-4 passing with 2 INT's
    Manning first game- 1 TD 3 INT's
Terry Bradshaw first season- 6 TD 24 INT
Elway first season- 47% completion percentage 7 TD 14 INT

From this you can see that it's quite common for a good QB to start out real bad their first season or game.

I guess we will have to see next week when my Chargers take care of him.

I can tell you right now that Russell won't be much of a factor against the Chargers. Oakland is rebuilding and only have 8, maybe 9 above average players on the entire team. With our crappy O-line and no Justin Fargas, I expect the Chargers to blitz and be in Russell's face all game due to bad protection. It won't be pretty but it will be good for his progression to see the many different schemes that the Chargers run. This is the reason I like the fact that he's playing against tough defenses because it gives him a good measuring tool on what he needs to improve on compared to having good games against sub-par teams. I'll be the first to admit that his hold out drastically hurt his progression. He missed training camp, missed pre-season, and only ran drills with the practice squad a majority of the season. He didn't even start practicing with the first or second team until about 5 weeks ago. He's raw but he'll come around once Oakland gets off it's butt and picks up a supporting cast for him. Depending on how the draft goes, I suspect that Oakland may take Darren McFadden.

Personally I think the Raiders should have went after a free agent QB and drafted Adrian Peterson, Lynch or one of the top WR. I don't think QBs like Russell will do well in the NFL due to injuries and not being used correctly. There has yet to be a successful running QB in the NFL. By successful I min winning. Vick ran well, but he couldn't win. Randell Cunningham did well with the Eagles and for a short time Kordell Stewart did well. McNabb does well also, but he has an arm to go with the legs.

Russell isn't a running QB Mike. He's a pocket passer that can scramble when in trouble. Unlike Vick and some of the others that are considered "running QB's" Russell's first priority is to throw the ball. He's 6'6" 260 so he's not going anywhere..lol. Add the fact that he has the strongest arm in football, he can kill defenses deep if he has the weapons. I was actually a big proponent of the Raiders drafting Calvin Johnson as Porter and Curry are a weak WR combo. If the Raiders draft McFadden though that will secure the running game as he has the same level of talent like a Tomlinson type of RB and will make up for us passing on Peterson. WR is still going to be a problem though and I have a feeling that another malcontent free agent WR is coming our way next year.

    some comments

Unlike Vick and some of the others that are considered "running QB's" Russell's first priority is to throw the ball. yeah, but to throw it to raiders receivers, or throw it away. there are brains involved here.
vick wasn't a "running QB", he was a RB that sometimes passed.
roethlisberger listened to his coach, vick didn't. russell has shown he has the same "me" mentality by holding out, and that mentality doesn't go away.
i can provide a list of players with the ME ME mentality.

manning has weapons, marino didn't, i believe marino made the marks brothers good.
you can buy good receivers or let the qb make the receivers good.
he appears to be as strong as an ox, and twice as smart.

I was actually a big proponent of the Raiders drafting Calvin Johnson as Porter and Curry are a weak WR combo. if the qb gets the ball to the receiver, they sometimes catch it. don't always blame it on the receivers. look at the pats and how many receivers they have gone through in the last
5 years. brady always does good.

If the Raiders draft McFadden though that will secure the running game as he has the same level of talent like a Tomlinson type of RB and will make up for us passing on Peterson. NO, please don't make mcfadden the next tomlinson before the draft. wait and make him the next tomlinson after 3 years of proving he can do tomlinson like yards. in fact, don't make peterson great until he proves he has the durability and yards for 3 or more years. i am surprised by the status given rookies before they have earned it in the NFL.

WR is still going to be a problem though and I have a feeling that another malcontent free agent WR is coming our way next year.

if he has class, he will go to the pats if bill wants him and will fit in, if he is a problem player, who really cares where he goes?

i understand some aren't going to like my comments, and will disagree with me strongly. some may even think badly of me. i can't help that.
i thought some stuff just needed to be said.

It's ridiculous to judge Russell after one game... hell, he hasn't even started yet. If they can get him some decent WR weapons to use on the outside, he's going to be a threat.

Besides, dude is HUGE. Can you imagine seeing him rumble down the field? DB's, hell even some LB's aren't going to have a prayer.

I don't really root for the Raiders, but I like what Kiffen is doing. He seems like he has the right idea. He just needs time and some support.

And what does a player being classy and going to the Pats have to do with a free agent WR that the Raiders bring in next year?
