"Congress' job performance was approved by just 22 percent, continuing a steady decline in the public's assessment since Democrats took over in January."
And your point is? Last time I looked 49 members of the Senate were Rep. and 202 members of the House. Is there suppose to be some correlation between Dems winning Congress and the approval rating. Seems to me the Rep are as much to blame for Congress' shortcomings as any Dem. When you don't have a working majority that can overturn vetoes, it is quite evident that not much of your agenda is going to get passed.

Check Google for other articles. Even a one seat majority give the Democrats control off the Senate, the House and almost all of the committees. Poll after pol state that the Democrats have kept none of their campaign promises. I would say Bush's approval rating is down do to Iraq and not keeping a lot of his campaign promises. He won re-election when Iraq was a complete mess, so you can't say Iraq is the only reason his ratings are down. They are down because so many Republicans are mad at him for promising to be a conservative and he is not, especially when it comes to spending.

Measures still have to be voted on and if you have a sitting president who threatens to veto legislation that he does not agree with you are not going to override that veto with a one vote majority.

I agree 100% what you are saying. What I am saying is the American people are blaming both Bush and the Democratic leadership. I posted a snippet and the other part specifically stated the leadership of the Democratic party because they have not cut spending like they said they would or get us out of Iraq.

One thing that I seen earlier in this discussion was the insert of prices and such under Busch and under Clinton.
Even though I ™™™™™ about the gas prices I don't see how it is Busch's fault. How can they blame him for the gas prices going up worldwide. Is he the one that has made our refineries obselete that they can't keep up with production.
You need to sit and look at the situation. This is the baby boomer age. We have more and more boomers kids coming of age to drive. More older ones starting careers which in turn is using more fuel.
I once posted a thread wanting to know why our nation patriotatic feeling has vanished again. We have become complacent again. I guess I need to find it and post it again.

All I'd like to add here is that to quote a President's popular vote percentage as the main rebuttal to why he is not a great president is pretty weaksauce.
He got 50.7% of the popular vote? So what? Al Gore captured more of the popular vote in 2000 and lost - using that as a basis for argument (popular vote) does that mean he would have been a better president?
I'd surmise that Bush beat out Kerry in 2004 because even most Dems weren't fond of Kerry...one of their weaker candidates in recent memory(since Dukakis?), and it seemed that people at least wanted to give Bush a chance to clean up the Iraq war.
If you want to talk about beating out the other candidate Clinton CRUSHED Dole in 1996 (I voted for Dole, folks...), maybe he didn't receive over 50%, but 49.2% to 40.7% (and 379 to 179 in electoral votes) compared to Bush's 50.7% to 48.3% (286-251) is a little more compelling.
I won't call Bush a "loser", because I don't think he is. He's quite a winner actually. Anyone that can figure out how to become governor and president while overcoming all the shortfalls he has must be worth something, right? Kinda like Clinton in that way...lol...everything from failing business transactions to drug and alcohol rumors and they can STILL win the presidency!! Hey, maybe I still have a shot!

"Thus far, the reputed idiot Bush has graduated from Yale and Harvard, made a stack of cash in the oil industry, become the first consecutive-term governor of Texas, defeated a dual-term VP for the presidency, and led his party to [November 5th's] extraordinary triumphs. Let his opponents keep calling him stupid; if they do, within five years Bush will be King of England, the Pope, and world Formula One motor racing champion." - Tim Blair

Mike;
Although I respect the fact that you don't want to see people disrespecting the Presidency, something tells me that you wouldn't come running if someone made a thread bashing Bill Clinton.
Speaking of Bill, how many arguments for Bush on this thread have been made using the words "Bill Clinton"? Its like saying alcoholics aren't bad by comparing them to cocaine and heroin addicts.
Finally, everyone is still disregarding the alien issue.
Sincerely,
Not a Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama supporter
