Give qualified (pass a gun proficiency test), law abiding citizens, the ability to stop this kind of attrocicty without having to wait 15 minutes for the "police" to show up.
Exactly, which is why I feel it is a fantastic compromise to arm the campus security guards. If need be, put them through the requisite training.

many college campuses do have armed security guards, but it still takes them too long to arrive at a location where there is a threat because remember there is still the human factor.
The gunman starts shooting, in a matter of minutes he could have killed 30 people... someone not only has to get a call in to campus security, but then security has to react and hope that theres an officer(s) nearby. If there's not (they cant have a security officer in every single room), then theres more people dying...
We have a pretty decent campus security, but by the time someone opened fire (and assuming someone was able to call them), and they actually arrived, id say anywhere from 5-20 minutes could have elapsed. Thats en eternity to a crowded room/building of defenseless people.

If this is the case, then teachers at high schools and middle schools should carry guns (in the former, students even could), passengers aboard planes should carry them, and any other person being in a crowded place should be able to have them. No. Not happening.

That's exactly right...anyone who is qualified (18+ and completed a concealed weapons class) and feels it necessary to protect themselves should have that right. It's one of the very basic rights this country was founded on.

why would middle school students be able to carry guns... theyre not old enough to get a permit, therefore carrying a firearm would be illegal anywhere, including school. Also its not that teachers should carry guns, its that they should have the right to (then its up to them whether they do or not). Id feel a whole lot safer knowing my child was going to a place that had at least some form of protection if someone stormed in and opened fire.

high school students also arent old enough to carry handguns...
most states are similar, but for example purposes, heres Virginias law:
It shall be unlawful for any person under 18 years of age to knowingly and intentionally possess or transport a handgun or assault firearm anywhere in the Commonwealth.

I was 19 my senior year. The point is simple:
Yes, people have the right to carry guns, but, concomitantly, people have the right to ban guns from their property.
