Dude, the whole card market is overkill right now. I remember back in 1999, if you pulled a jersey card it was like winning th e lottery. Now every pack has 16 autographs, and 1/1s are EVERYWHERE.
While we are on the subject, I hate the fact that just because UD or Donruss stamps a "1/1" on a card that somehow makes it more valuable when it is only a parallel of some other card that is usually stamped /250.
Then along came the celeb autos and relics and they were hot stuff to begin with. Now, as you said, it's just becoming overkill.
With the insanely high cost of some of these products, coupled with what seems to be growing cynicism towards breaking high-end products, I think we will see the sportscard bubble burst within the next few years.

That's why I switched to non sports:) The Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, Johnny Depp autso won't drop from overkill like the 150 different big ben autos (what got me is why the rookie year autos were worth more to me an auto is an auto:) and yes the 1/1 annoyed me also)..
You can still lay down 50.00 for a box of non sports and pull SWEEET autos.. Why can Inkworks offer an Autograph, A pieceworks(gameused) and a Sketch card in a box(AVP Requiem) and still sell for under 60.00?? if a sports box offers those it's over 100.00 and you pull a Jose Bautista or Matt Morris auto:(
I've only dabbled on and off since I had to sell off my collection in early 2005 but I don't see it going away I think when it gets to 20.00 a pack and nothing but base cards people will just turn to older vintage cards..
you could buy rookies of Jim Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Walter Peyton, Johnny Unitas auto all for the value of a contenders manning rookie.. Or you could spend 1,000 and have the guy go to prison for dog fighting..

Every good idea in the card industry is eventually flooded and nearly worthless in 3-4 years. Everything from autos, numbered cards, 1/1's, printing plates, jersey cards, etc.
Perfect current example in football. The jumbo logo patch autos from Leaf Rookies and Stars were sweet. Relatively new idea. Already this year, Prestige is copying those and using the NFL draft logo instead of team logo.

I like it because you have batman, robin and catwoman all on one card

Would be an awesome card if it were Julie Newmar instead of the 3rd string Catwoman.
