It was well deliviered, as all of Obama's speeches are. He mentioned giving tax cuts to families with income under $250k, which I like, but I still don't understand how you can create universal healthcare without a significant tax hike. He said that the way to pay for all of the programs he mentioned was to weed out the programs that are no longer function, etc. I don't think he'll have the billions he needs to do that, though.
He also said that within ten years, we won't be dependent on foreign oil, though presidents serve only eight years at most. He said that drilling our own oil is only a temporary solution, as if McCain has said this is the ending solution to our problems. Saying that we can't be dependent on foreign oil is not a Democratic issue. It's definitely bi-partisan. Obama apparently wants the government to figure the energy out, while I want the American ingenuity to figure it out, i.e., Microsoft.

It was a very well delivered speech and he did not "dance around the issues" by any means. He also challenged and called out McCain, saying that he would love to have a debate about who has a better temperament to hold office. I thought it was a slam dunk of a speech and will be interested to hear McCain's rebuttal.

Sorry guys but it was a typical democratic speech. He said a lot of things that people will love hearing but with no realistic chance of providing.
Universal Health care is possible and a good idea (no it isn't)
Tax cuts to those who make less than 250,000 (he has also said the exact opposite)
no dependence on foreign oil (people love hearing that)
do away with wasted programs (no program costs enough money to make a difference in the context)
I find it funny when people on either side of the fence are encouraged by a speech. The speech is normally written by someone else and read from a teleprompter. How does that give you any feedback about a candidate except that they can look good and read well?

So you are saying the candidate has nothing at all to do with what is on that speech

Not saying they have nothing to do with it. But I think it is a very poor way to judge a candidate. They are reading a speech writtten/edited by someone else. How does that tell you about the? John Kerry was a great speaker but if you looked at his beliefs and opinions he was not a good candidate (I know many will disagree, just my opinion)

4 years later, you still think Bush was the better choice?

Saying Bush is a good president by comparing him to John Kerry is like saying Chad Pennington is a good quarterback by comparing him to Ryan Leaf. Kerry may have been the worst Democratic selection in the past three decades.
