I was thinking about something pretty interesting

I read so many articles and news stories and emails about how people hate George Bush. I support George bush, while not the best leader, he is better than other options. So I got to thinking, if people say this man is such a bad leader, then why did he get elected not once, but twice? Any current members who dissaprove of bush now but voted for him earlier on? Why the current change in opinion?

One poster in another thread said that the majority of the nation picked Bush because we are essentially 'not smart.' (https://www.sportscardforum.com/showp...8&postcount=32) While many voters don't try to make informed decisions, I certainly don't think it's fair to assume that all Bush voters are dense. Like many voters, I didn't like Kerry's wavering, and after reviewing both platforms, I slightly preferred Bush's. Nonetheless, I still regret picking Bush because there was truly a better option, even if there was no chance of election (Libertarian). Our nation likes to think it can give us two candidates we don't like and force us to pick one or the other, but we always have another option in voting, and in some situations we should pick that other option.

I was a fan of the first 4 years of Bush, but not the second four years. He was a disastrous leader in the first few years in Iraq then redeemed himself in the past 2 years.

I would rate the Bush 8 years as a B-.

On a side note, Bush was elected by over 50% of America, something Clinton didn't do, but is some how considered more popular.

The mass hatred of George Bush is a media driven thing. There are reasons that we should question his presidency, but his "evilness" has been greatly overstated by the media. Bush's presidency was completed determined by the events on 9/11. His term was almost entirely dictated before he had the chance to try anything. Here's what he did:

-Stayed and worked with the rescue workers at Ground Zero
-Invaded two countries with well-known terrorist bases in their country, in efforts to prevent another mass attack
-Urged Congress to drill more in ANWR to ween us off our foreign oil dependency. This is apparently a new idea, according to Obama. The Democratic Congress rejected this attempt and thus increased our dependency.
-Supported Georgia in Russia's unprovoked invasion
-Allowed for Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac to be bailed out in efforts to aid the housing crisis. This is a very un-Republican move, but Bush felt the need to cross the aisle.

There's more, I'm sure. Can someone tell me what he has done that's so evil? I hear people continue to say that he has ruined our international reputation. How so? Please tell.

Exactly what I was trying to provoke. As far as I am concerned all of George Bushes actions have been with good intentions. In addition to invading countries known to have terrorist bases, he also revamped homeland security. Airport security has never been stricter (or safer) for that matter. Many bomb threats and hoaxes have been handled properly thanks to the bush actions.

I know he's been no Lincoln, but I really get confused when people talk about how awful he is. As for social issues, he has tried to leave most controversial issues up to the states, as he should. In the race area, he appointed Colin Powell, a black man, and Condi Rice, a black woman, to high ranking positions. It's so hard for me to understand why people think he's evil. And apparently, Yale graduates are stupid, too. Don't give me that "oh he's got money" bull. Paris Hilton has money and she's not a Yale graduate.

Let's face it. Americans were confronted with a real life "guy" as their president and didn't like it. So the angered Bush-haters want to elect another "one of us" to the presidency. I thought we just had 8 years of an illiterate...

dood...he didnt win either election...he cheated...TWICE!!! Are we really going to ignore that as part of our history??? let's be honest, if the recount in florida had been let to proceed, he would have lost! In 2004, there is lots of evidence pointing to some sort of misconduct going on in Ohio....whatever, people will believe what they want to…so eat it up

He revamped homeland security? by what, having a color code system that means absolutely nothing...by forming a department of homeland security? By having American citizens held without trial all in the name of "terra"?

The hijackers on 9/11 were allegedly mostly Saudis, but the Bush family has major ties with them, so we cant go after them…He fought against a formal 9/11 commission (JFK’s commission was set up within days) for over a year, then met with them privately and only with Cheney at his side ( to keep their stories straight)…then censored anything that had to do with Saudi Arabia in the report! Not a single one of the alleged 19 hijackers was an Iraq or Afghanistan citizen

He stayed and helped clean up ground zero??? What???

George Bush killer til George Bush kills me...now bring on the anti-American comments for me! I’m sure I’ll be called unpatriotic or a even a traitor, but whatever…

John Kerry wasn't exactly a strong candidate.
