Very cool man! Truth be told, the "contracting a cold while giving his inaugural address" is false. History shows that he never showed signed of illness until about 3 weeks after his inauguration. Turns out he only contracted the common cold out of coincidence, which turned into pneumonia. Random and interesting fact.

My mom's ancestors include the Volga Germans, who migrated from Germany to Russia during Catherine the Great's reign. My mom's maternal grandmother insisted she was related to Catherine. Many of the Germans who came to Russia weren't part of Catherine's family, but some were, and so mom has always taken grandma's word for it.

Vladimir Lenin is another possibility since he was born in that same region near the Volga and has a mixed ethnic ancestry very similar to my mom's side of the family. It would help if my mom had documents, but both sides of her family arrived in the U.S. from Russia surreptitiously in the early 20th century to get away from poverty, pogroms, etc., so I know very little except what my mom remembers being told as a child.

On my dad's side, he's related to one of the original Pilgrim colonists..Myles Standish, I think. It's funny to have ancestors on my dad's side who were original English/Scottish colonists and have been living here since the 1600s, while my mom's side is much more recent and mysterious.

Khendra, that's so cool to hear! That's great that you've been able to trace it back that far and know your family history! Thanks for sharing!

Dad's side was a bunch of nomadic Germans but I'm remotely related to Benjamin Franklin on my mom's side... side note, My aunt Edna is a direct descendant of Miles Standish (Mayflower)

That makes two Standish descendants on the forums. Perhaps he would have been a card collector had they made them back in the day.

I am distantly related to Grorge Pomutz, an ethnic Romanian General of United States in the Civil War. I forget exactly how we're related except that it's from my dad's side.
