What is your question? That there is no such thing as a worthless poor person? Or that welfare doesn't go to a person for as long as they "qualify"? The answers are, yes there are, and yes it does.

i like the people that always call foul whenever someone attacks the welfare system. You want to know the truth? i have a friend who is autistic. he has been all his life and cannot perform 2 of the 6 daily functions required to live on your own. He qualifies for disability, im sure he could get food stamps, whatever he needs... but he went out and found a job at a factory that caters to the handicapped and now lives on his own at a care facility where he has supervision and a button to push if he needs help but lives and pays for things on his own.... your telling me the guy that comes in the first of every month driving his new dodge calibur and wearing nice clothes cant do the same? I work at a bank and recently did a mortgage for someone and i requested his income statements... he gets 3200 bucks a MONTH.... A MONTH, in government benefits.... i dont know for sure what everyones pay scale in on here but i would venture to guess there are some who dont make that working 40 hours per week takehome pay.... how is that fair? He has been on SSI and disability for years.... his daughter gets benefits, he gets benefits, his wife gets benefits..... you cant tell me he cant get a job at wal mart.... but it is easier and he can make more money by getting into the system.... now every time he comes in he is so high on painkillers he cant even have a conversation with you.... i would like him to thank me one time for paying his mortgage for him each month
i think the urine test would be awesome.... im not anti poor people... but i am anti lazy people... if my autistic friend that has never driven a car or be able to climb a ladder can get a job.... the punk kid who didnt graduate high school, refuses to get a job, and lives on the system can suck it up and go find work

redgone - one of the sides of working in ministry is seeing those that would qualify as below poor. I have seen people that have been on welfare for a decade and are perfectly capable of working. I have seen women have their 6th kid and have no problem admitting that they did it so they could get more money. I have seen a family register kids in 2 states so they could get welfare from both.
So, while I don't know how it is in your state, in mine, there are plenty of cases of lifetime welfare.

daniel, you haven't even come close to addressing anything i brought up...for someone as smart as you are, you can be pretty condescending
what does he get 3200 per month for? What kind of benefits does he receive? Is he disabled? What type of disability does he have? You don't even know this guy other than you did his mortgage, and you've got the right to judge this guy. Are you mad that he wears nicer clothes than you or drives a nicer car? He should be able to work at Wal-Mart you say? How do you know this?
oh, and the urine test that you think would "be awesome" wouldn't test for the painkillers your buddy is on
what you are referring to is welfare fraud...that is a problem. But I ask again, since you stated you had no problem with any of the programs I listed earlier, which welfare programs offer lifetime welfare or which ones are you against?

hey red.... how about we step back a little and re-read my post.... first i do know exactly what his benefits are for.... i am a loan officer... i am able to see exactly what he makes, where it comes from, and how long it will last. I cannot do loans unless the money will last at least the term of the loan. This guy lost the tip of his finger in a machine accident 8 years ago.... he can completely function except the tip of his pinkie finger. He gets disability, some form of SSI, his kids (all three of them) recieve money for him being disabled and since the courts let him sue his employer for it he recieves another several hundred dollars from them in settlement. are you happy... i have read several of your posts and you are quick to judge people and pretend you know the situations.... you have no idea how deep the welfare system really runs... i see it DAILY.... Im not sure what fantasy world you live in but all the taxes i pay and i assume you do as well are going to millions of people like this that abuse the system... and the current laws not only enable it... they provoke it by having the benefits they do....
And i realize a urine test would not detect the painkillers but im also fairly certain that isnt all that is going on in that household

hey tutall...no need to re-read your post, i read it the first time...
but let me get this straight, since i obviously didnt read your post correctly...a good chunk of this money comes directly from a settlement with his former company? are you saying he shouldn't have sued for losing a digit? and if he is entitled to disability payments from the government for his finger, why are you mad at him for accepting those benefits?
all i've done in this thread is ask questions about welfare...because there are constantly these stereotypes that people who receive government aid are all lazy stoners...somebody mentioned that there is welfare for life, and i still havent found it...in fact, i dont think anybody in this whole thread besides me has even mentioned one single welfare program...which ones are you against or are you against all of them?
and the idea of me judging people is preposterous...im one of the most open minded people on here...maybe it is you who need to re-read some of my posts...the best part about it is usually i ask questions about things im not sure of yet that means i live in a fantasy world...pfft

as has repeatedly been said... we are not talking everyone who is on welfare... if you knew this guy as i do you would understand. He gets a couple hundred dollars from a settlement.... the rest of it comes from the government. I know for a fact he gets something like 700 and 1100 on the first of the month every month... he also gets a deposit on the third wednesday of the month for another several hundred.... all that is tax free... he is getting the equivalent of about 5K a month from what i make. If you saw the people come into the bank i do and cash thousands of dollars in government checks ill bet you would feel differently about it. These people (and yes i do know many of their situations and i sit with them every few months) have done nothing to go try to find a job, hell one guy gets his benefits that he doesnt need and goes golfing with it every week. He plays courses i could not afford and he claims disability.... if nothing else i am sure he could preform his duties as a golf course attendant.
Sorry i dont know all the different welfare programs there are... i do not sit and study them and i plan to never have to use any of them. I have too much pride to take any help from the government. They are there in my opinion to set regulations and protect its citizens but not to interject in each persons individual lives. we are headed to a state of socialism and that i do not care for. even though we have gotten way off topic i am done discussing this on this thread... if you really want me to dig deeper and provide you proof people stay of welfare much longer than needed i will do so... though i really dont care about it... nothing i can do about it.... bend over and keep paying taxes so some people who dont work can keep on living lives the same as those of us who work for it

your funny...now i sit and study welfare programs....the first time i decided to look into what welfare programs there are was last night when this thread was posted...maybe if you actually looked into what welfare programs there are, instead of just being jealous that some guy plays golf on a nicer course than you could afford, we could have a better discussion about it...instead you want to just complain about all the government checks you have to cash at work....but nice try anyway
oh, and thanks for implying that i like being raped anally

wow... now we took it to a whole new level... i did not imply anything about you.... i said "nothing i can do about it.... bend over and keep paying taxes so some people who dont work can keep on living lives the same as those of us who work for it"
see the nothing i can do part....
second.... it is a fundamental difference... i hate the whole system... i dont like people that abuse the system and i dont like paying other people not to work... call me old and bitter but what is mine should continue to be mine. im not jealous of the guy that plays golf.... tell me you dont think it is ridiculous that some guy who hasnt worked in years gets to have nicer things than those of us that work our asses off 40+ hours a week to bring home a check. If you are fine with those people... carry on... but as far as i am concerned it is ridiculous

You said to show you "lifetime welfare" which implied that it didn't exist. Indeed it does. I directly addressed your points.
