Because your comments are unwarranted and remember, you instigated everything when you began this thread.
How can you say Obama is doing lousy when he has only been the President for 17 days???? Are you kidding me? Are you aware of everything he inherited just over two weeks ago when he became our president?
Your other comments about what alcoholics and drug users believe are equally ridiculous! But on the positive side, you are fortunate to never have met an alcoholic nor an addict.
This is the exact kind of one-track thinking that got this country of ours in such a mess!
Well, my original point was that no matter how far apart two people may be politically, there is always room for freindship and intelligent discourse - kind of similar to Obama. Secondly, things weren't "bad" during the past 8 years they were "catastrophic". I believe our country is a million times better now that Obama is in office. But, again, it has only been 17 days so my opinion is still in it's infancy...
I imagine if you were president and the scrutiny of the world's media were upon you for over 2 years we could find a few "bad seeds" in your life as well...How would you like your character to be defined by those people?

WOW !! At least you're right about one thing, your diatribe is exactly what Obama also considers friendly and intelligent discourse. Please note the passages in bold. Do you believe insulting me or putting me down in any way could be considered friendly OR intelligent discourse ?
Also please note the passages in red. Those are just plain wrong.
I'll try one more time. My original question to you was this........ If Obama is doing what you say Bush did, and you think it was a catastrophe, why wouldn't you rail against Obama just as harshly ? Wrong is wrong whether it's your guy or not.

Because Obama is NOT doing what Bush did, not even close. I NEVER said Obama was doing what Bush did. I said, "Your comments are exactly how I would describe the Bush regime..."
I realize now that you are right, you didn't actually start the thread, only the argument.
You are quick to point out my small discrepencies but seem to completely ignore the bulk of my comments. How can you judge a president after only 17 days?????
Furthermore,
How is this NOT instigating anything?
"Obama's aunt is a crook
Some of his closest friends are criminals
He keeps appointing criminals to high level cabinet positions
Big surprise that his brother also hangs out with criminals ?
Liars, cheats, out and out criminals, rascists.....These are the people that the annointed one has chosen to surround himself with. And not just recently, it's just recently he's aquired the authority to put these people into positions of power and to implement some of the warped ideas that one gets when hanging with low lifes."
Secondly, here is your "ridiculous" quote, "Ask a drug addict and almost all of them will tell you that when they were using they thought everybody else used too." Please note when I say your comments are ridiculous I am not insulting you I am insulting your comments, perhaps one in the same for some but technically not a personal insult.
So, of your personal knowledge, what types of drugs will make people believe that everyone else is using them too? I have known many addicts and alcoholics since coming of age twenty years ago and not a single one has ever had the dellusion that 'everyone else used too.' Drug and alcohol addiction is a lonely and desolate place and I would welcome any and all professional medical or scientific opinions regarding your comments that addicts believe everyone else is using as well.
It is not my idea of a good time to quarrel with you over politics or anything else. You are entitled to see the world any way you like. The only reason why I stepped in is because your comments about Obama were unwarranted, harsh and spiteful. On top of all that, they have nothing to do with what is ailing our country and have no bearing on how Obama will perform.
Then your comments about alcoholics and addicts was so completely void of any truth I felt obligated to speak out against the ignorance, if not for myself then for all my friends and family who have either died or had their lives completely destroyed but such habits.
It has never been my objective to insult you. Rather, my use of certain language was designed to provoke thought on your part and produce direct responses to my comments. If you are insulted, I apologize. It is one thing to sit face to face and discuss something, and quite another to do it online. Perhaps I am not too good with the latter. Either way , I will bow out now.
It is my sincere hope that Obama will one day prove to you that he is worthy of your cooperation and respect...

First off let me say that I agree with you that having a conversation on a chat board as opposed to a face to face conversation presents certain difficulties and things are often misunderstood.
Now to your issues..........
Why isn't 17 days enough time. Aren't I allowed to criticize what he's actually done ? One of the things that really sticks in my craw is he just recently talked about how bad it was that Bush doubled the deficit. So what's one of Obama's first acts ? Trying to push through a trillion dollar spending package. How about all his big talk about belt tightening and fighting global warming ? So what does he do ? He goes to a democratic retreat in Williamsburg on a frikkin' 747 or whatever air force one is. Why not just stay in DC where everybody already was ? The reason I'm so critical of Obama after ONLY 17 days is because he's done some things that show his true character and I don't like what I've seen so far.
As for the alcohol/drug thing you'll just have to take my word for it when I tell you I have more than just passing knowledge regarding thoise issues and my statement comes from that knowledge. Maybe my use of the terms "almost all" and "everyone else" was ill advised and too broad but the delussion that others live like they do is very very very common.
If you want medical knowledge I would suggest reading Alcoholics Anonymous but specifically the chapters "the doctor's opinion" and "more about alcoholism". And even more specifically on page xxviii in the doctor's opinion where he states "To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one". Part of the implication of that statement is the natural conclusion that if you think what you're doing is normal then you think most/many others live the same way. THAT was my whole point about Obama associating with so many people that were doing unnormal things.

actually a criminal is somebody who has been CONVICTED of a crime...since he had charges dropped, i think its unfair to call the man a criminal....and since when does getting busted with a controlled substance make somebody "most likely a liar"...another ridiculous stereotype with no actual evidence to support your theory
Obama was arrested in a Nairobi slum, and he was picked up with people who possessed marijuana, said police spokesman Eric Kiraithe.
"Being found with people who are in possession of cannabis is a petty offense," Kiraithe said.
the wording in the CNN article leads me to believe he didnt even have any cannabis in his possession, but was simply with people who possessed cannabis...that's about as laughable as police trying to bring charges against michael phelps being photographed with a bong

Sorry but common sense would lead one to believe that if you're hanging out with people that have banned substances you're most likely involved in it too. If I have no intention of doing carck I'm probably not gonna be caught up in a drug raid on a crack house !
I realize you're talking legalities but the common man knows what he sees for what it is.
Michael Phelps ?? How in the world could you bust him for illegal drug use ? In my opinion that bong looks pretty much like a Turkish tobacco pipe. Yeah right, AGAIN legalities ! Sure, maybe he was just checking out a new bong model with tobacco in it. Maybe he didn't even know what it was ? Maybe he thought it was a way to create nipple stimulation. GIMME A BREAK !! Maybe you can't prosecute him ( which is fine with me) but , AGAIN, common sense leads you to the conclusion that he did something unacceptable. Unless of course you believe that drug use is okay, which I can't/won't even argue since drug users have a very skewed view of what is and isn't reasonable behavior.

I'm not getting into the debate with you guys, but just wanted to point out that you left this part of the article out:
Earlier, police had told CNN that Obama had been arrested for possessing cannabis and resisting arrest, which can carry a sentence of up to a year in jail or hefty fines.
So originally they said arrested for possessing and resisting arrest, now they are saying arrested for being with people who were in possession....looks like it's not exactly clear.

Wow, that's hard to believe that the brother of the President Of The United States would have his charges reduced.

Again, not to get into the debate, but I have actually smoked turkish tobacco in a hookah...smoking paraphernalia are not exclusively used for drugs. But if that's what it was, I don't think he would be issuing official apologies either....

i just hope you've never had a beer in your life to come off that strong...they did something unacceptable? please...
common sense leads me to believe that michael phelps won 14 gold medals by working his tail off and becoming the best swimmer on the planet...he is the most decorated olympic athlete of all time....he also enjoys unwinding by smoking cannabis in a pretty nice looking glass bong...it's ironic that the same day his story breaks, santonio holmes wins Super Bowl MVP...yeah, two of the world's best athletes like the sticky
what's acceptable and what's not is all based on perception...if you want to declare obamas brother a criminal and liar based on the fact he was rounded up with marijuana and released without charges, go ahead...i dont see it even remotely the same way and I surely don't have a skewed view of what's reasonable behavior because of my beliefs
he did not have his charges reduced, he had them dropped...let's try to state facts here
