Tyler Perry is still looking for respect
CNN: Tyler Perry is still looking for respect
Sappy story about what Tyler Perry has overcome and how he's tore down racial boundaries, blah blah blah.
This should explain most of that:
By Alan Duke
CNN
Editor's note: CNN writer Alan Duke has had two small voice-only roles in Tyler Perry's TV series, "House of Payne," which airs on CNN's sister network TBS. He has had no relationship with Perry beyond observing him on set.
I have never seen any of his movies or shows, but I can point to two reasons he gets no respect from me:
1 - FTA:
When his first movie -- "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" -- debuted in 2005...
...With six films already out and a seventh -- "Madea Goes To Jail" -- coming soon...
Seven theatrically released movies in three years along with three straight to video releases and two TV series...If you don't understand why that's a bad thing, you might enjoy them.
2 - IMDB ratings of each:
Diary of a Mad Black Woman - 5.0 (out of 10)
Madea's Family Reunion - 3.9
I Can Do Bad All by Myself (video only) - 3.3
Madea's Class Reunion (video only) - 3.9
Meet the Browns (video only) - 3.1
Daddy's Little Girls - 3.7
Why Did I Get Married? - 4.0
The Family That Preys - 3.1
Madea Goes to Jail (video release) - 4.4
"House of Payne" - 1.1
"Meet the Browns" - NA...it's been on over a month and it doesn't even have 5 votes. Apparently a lot of people are too busy watching it to vote?
That article just ticked me off, I'm so tired of hearing about Tyler Perry. And the fact that he's "still looking for respect" is like the Spice Girls expecting to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Just my .02

yeah, I've never seen any of these movies. They just remind me of the Earnest goes to... series. I loved those movies when I was a kid, but they seem to just be goofy movies.

I can be watching TBS and every few months I hear, "New Tyler Perry" series. Give it up already Tyler, none of your shows/movies are funny.

I think it's funny how he has to put his name before every title.
I have seen "House of Pain" though, and I like it.

Yeah, it's like it wouldn't be a movie worth watching, but oh wait, Tyler Perry made it, I guess maybe it's ok? Usually when someone's name is put on it like that, it's someone that makes you think, "Oh wow, I should check that out." With him, those movies and two shows are all he's done and even the first one when he was a nobody had his name on it...what does that accomplish? Maybe he knew he was going to mass produce and combo package this stuff and feed it to the masses like McDonald's so he wanted something to tie everything together from the beginning.

He's nobody that came from nowhere really...put his name on a bunch of mediocre to bad stuff and aimed it at a specific demographic and made a bunch of money. Not a bad idea really...

I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry and would love for him to go away....however he has a point. He does get no respect and he absolutely deserves it. All of his movies have been financially successful(by huge amounts) and his TV show is one of the highest rated cable shows. He has become so successful that he has opened up his own studio lot in ATL. That is huge. He is one of the hardest working men in show business, and the fact he has been so successful and there is a post like this proves the point of the article.
As far as the IMDB ratings(Im sure you know)...take them with a grain of salt they are extremely subjective.
With all that said let me state again......I hate him, loathe him, wish he would go away. And I wish he would learn a lesson from Eddie Murphy. Dressing in drag doesn't automatically mean something is funny.
