If you are selling the card online, yes the grade and slab matter. Grading is especially important if what you have is vintage, especially high-grade vintage or rookie cards. If you are selling a card in person, often it doesn't, but having a card in the holder helps.

Don't forget, registries do make a difference. Low pop cards in desired sets can command HUGE prices. If you've ever seen two people with deep pockets duke it out over a PSA 10 common for their registry set, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Very true, the registry competiton can drive the prices of low pop. 10's.

So would a BGS 9.5 graded card dictate buying/selling WAY ABOVE BV? Thats what Im trying to figure out... If a card gets slabbed a BGS 9.5 is it worth more alot more than BV?

Well I'm not to sure about the BV thing but if it's graded by BGS or PSA the price will usually increase. It matters about which card it is though. And a BGS 9.5 is like a PSA 10.

I agree, if the card comes from a condition sensitive set then 9.5's/10's can go for 5x or more over bv.

BGS is by far the better grader and the BGS 9.5 value is higher than PSA 10. that is my opinion on it because i collect BGS 9.5 rc Auto's.

it also depends on the card...i will pay a premium for a first bowman chrome card of a player graded well, but a graded jersey card, even if a perfect means little to me

IMO yes because i think book (or raw) is based off the card being in NR-MT condition, so if u have a card the is gem mint or pristine it is much more valuable than book, ex joe montana rookie books $150 raw i believe (have not checked in a while), but graded a gem mint books around $2000 or something crazy like that. so to answer your question, yes IMO it makes a difference.

I tend to agree with your train of thought Dave. I find myself searching for BGS9.5's and paying a bit more to have the card in that pretty slab. I do think its a bumber that the industry is so concerned with the whole process... and of course i fall right into the trap and buy into it.

    Can I tell the difference between a PSA10 or BGS9.5???? Got me......lol

i think a bgs 9.5 is worth for than a mint ungraded card. i mean, i could say a card is mint but a buyer might say its nearmint and then want his money back. but if its graded bgs 9.5, no arguments can be made.

Thats like asking if a multicolored patch is worth more than a single colored. I have seen multicolored patches sell for well over BV, just as I have seen high graded cards do the same..It's all a personal preference and i with all the faking, trimming and altering going on nowdays i would prefer just an autheticated slabbed card with no grade over a raw card, but thats just me.

A card that recieves an "authentic" designation, and no grade usually is altered or defective in some manner. But it is authentic, and not a reprint.

    This is from PSA's site...

"N-0 Authentic Only - This means that PSA is only certifying that the item is genuine, without a numerical grade. This may be due to the existence of an alteration, one with malice or otherwise, a major defect or the original submitter may have requested that PSA encapsulate the card without a grade. The "Authentic" label means that the item, in our opinion, is real but nothing more."

But I think I may be with you in that I would take the "authentic" label over a raw card, depending on factors like price and condition. At least with the "authentic" card you can be mostly sure its the real deal.

I was refering to BGS in that statement... Try to correct someone who don't know what they are talking about, because it don't look like you do! BGS will not even slab a card that has been altered thats what separates them from other graders, that and strickter standards. That is why I use BGS only

Woah, cool the flames. No grader is infallible. Its a third party opinion, but its not law. Unless, you like your Bradys with a little less border on the bottom...

So much for everything in a BGS holder isn't trimmed or altered, and their "strickter" (your spelling, not mine) standards. Before you go crawling the internet for images of PSA or SGC cards with tampering evidence, yes, they are out there too. Even the most famous card of them all, in a PSA slab, has likely been trimmed.

Step off your high horse before you fall and break something.
