Best Modern Western - Round 1

I know not as many people will be interested in this one, but I like it so I'm going to do it anyway. I have shrunk the field to only 16 to keep it short(er) and sweet. As usual, vote for one movie per matchup and don't vote if you haven't seen them.

Also, I'm taking suggestions for what the next tourney should be. And remember, I like it to be specific to make it run better...nothing like greatest comedy because we'd have a field of 1,200 movies. Things like best college comedy, best high school comedy, best modern military...something that narrows the field down and makes it more manageable.

Have you seen Lonesome Dove and Appaloosa? I can understand people not liking Dances With Wolves or Assassination of Jesse James as much....

im assuming appaloosa is going to lose just because most people haven't seen it. some may prefer maverick, but I am betting most haven't seen it.

I agree...I was just looking at the voting and thought that as well. I do love Maverick, but I watched Appaloosa the other day and was very, very impressed. And I'm surprised to see the Assassination of Jesse James doing that well...I think it's heaps better than the new 3:10 to Yuma, but I figured more people would have seen 3:10 and voted for it. Plus, Assassination of Jesse James isn't your typical western to be sure....
