Well, SV is the true market. Chances are most of the cards are bought on ebay that are currently in the market. Beckett has no relation so SV, some guys just made it up. I can really make a book that has values of the cards if I wanted to, but I dont. I could make up whack prices and would you believe them? That is bv.

i understood the whole thing, waste of my time reading it..lol
i'll clue everyone in NIETHER SELL VALUE OR BOOK VALUE IS CORRECT!!!!! Book value is done by people who have no clue what they are doing and sell value isnt accurate because its only what sells on ebay, not craigslist, auction houses, card shops etc...
the CORRECT guide is PERSONAL VALUE! Whatever you feel comfortable trading it for is what the value is, not because people on beckett say so, and besides, ebay doesnt even show the max bid, so SV is incorrect

sorry man. a dollar is worth a dollar. this bv / sv stuff is CRAP. if you can only get $5 for a video game, then it's worth $5. Same with cards, comics, toys, a vehicle, a house, etc. Market value is market value. A basic lower level economics course would open a lot of eyes to some of these bv/sv collectors. The magazine company that establishes these bv's also recieves advertising revenue from big time card dealers that help establish the card prices. This is a flagrant conflict of interest. 1 of 2 things happen as a collector at this point. 1) the collector disregards the price guide, or 2) the collector distorts his collection's market value by using the inflated prices. This has been a point of contention with me for years, and I've voiced it since joining this forum.
on a side note, i used to collect video games. There is a price guide available for them, and it's pretty accurate as it follows ebay sales. It mostly targets older systems like NES, Turbografx, Atari, Sega, etc. Its revenue comes from actual magazine subscription prices and donations from members. Their valuation methods are laid out in the front of the magazine.Last edited by tarheelsnipe; 04-18-2009 at 08:20 AM.

i do take that into account. i like my 90;s guys and would pay and trade for them alot easier.
he gets really defensive and only contradicts himself. thats what i saw.
he brings up his tmac thats worth 100bv. i could have said the same thing he said about buying carter autos. and yet he wants 100 for it. what am i suppose to do with the games. use retail? thats even more than sv on ebay.

Both of you simultaneously list your items on ebay, then trade the proceeds. I know that's ridiculous, but it would be a great story on how to settle the argument.
