Price in Net Tonight
Havent found the story on TSN yet so it will have to be the French version: http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/273400.html
Soooo what does everyone think? Should Gainey have given the night off to Price and tried to win with Halak?
Some people said that Price was booed before the 3rd match, if that is true it really cannot be good for his confidence...I hope the fans are nicer tonight, he might not have won a game yet in the playoffs this year but it's still our goalie and we should support him...
Thoughts?

It appears Gainey rather lose with Price than win with Halak. It's been like this since he took over. Price has the worst numbers of any goalie in the playoffs who has played more than 1 game.

I know...numbers are awful .882 and 4.15 GAA. He is probably trying to show his confidence in his young goalie but I really dont think this is smart..The Mtl crowd can just eat players alive...Got to worry about Price's frame of mind right now...

I mean lets be honest, barring a miracle, the series is over, so I do not see what good could come out of starting him tonight. Since they have made it clear they want Price over Halak, why not give Halak the start, hope he wins a game or 2 to bump his stock, and then trade him to a team like Colorado in the off season for draft picks. I personally think Gainey is doing a lousy job handling the goalies.

This series was over before it even started. People say « Yeah but with Markov...».
They forget how much Markov is playing bad in those playoffs when hitting appears.
Doesnt matter who is is net tonight , to me they are just playing for the pride of avoiding THE BROOM.

Guys I'm not debating that the series is all but over....What I am talking about here is what playing Price again can do to his confidence.

Thanks Karine.
Personally Price reminds me a lot of Fleury when he first came up. He has an awesome glove hand and when he is on, he great. When he isn't his positioning is terrible and he struggles for long stretches of time. The difference is Fleury played on a team that was pretty bad, in a market that did not expect him to do it all by himself. If Price is given time to develop, which for a young goalie should be 3-5 years (i.e. Luongo), then I think he will be alright, however I can see people already getting impatient with him, which makes me question whether or not he'll even be on the team a few years from now. Montreal's main focus this off season should be putting together a defense, and building from the goalie outward. That is what you do with a franchise goalie.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Personally, I was a bit freaked out last year when Bob got rid of Huet because of Price's inexperience. A young goalie does need time to develop, Roy wasnt playing 60 games in his early Montreal years, this year Price played 52 and was injured for a while. If he hadnt been he would have been in net for 60+ games...give the youngster a chance to learn...
