"Ghetto" actually originally refers to places where Jews were forced to live.

Ok, so where is "ghetto" a racist term. That was my question.

Just was giving you the original connection.

Now days, a lot of people use it to describe run down, poor, crime-ridden, "urban" areas which typically consist of black demographics. Hence, why duwal related it to Obama.

That said, I don't think the use of ghetto in this thread had anything to do with Obama being black.

But why does "ghetto" directed towards only black people?

I'm pretty sure I agree with you Bonds_25, but i'm not really sure.

There are plenty of other races that belong to the "ghetto". Why would only black people live in the "ghetto".

Maybe I misread what he was trying to say.

There aren't only black people in the "ghetto". I'm just saying that is what a lot of people are referring to when they use it.

When presidents used to have some dignity and respect for the position, they used to refuse to say anyhthing negative about the previous administration and their subordinates.

Our current president has no dignity, cooth, respect, or even values the position of leader of our country to other foreign leaders.

He returns a bust of Winston Churchill to the British??? He gives the Queen an ipod??? He gives the British Prime Minister a stack of DVD's???!!!

How cheap, un-dignified, un-cooth, ghetto, is this president???? He makes us look like a bunch of cheap kids who have no business playing with the big boys. What an insult to our country!!

I don't think you using ghetto is racist, but I think you clearly used it in the wrong way. Merriam-Webster's defines a ghetto as "a quarter of a city in which members of a minority group live especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure".

You tried to use it as a way to say he's cheap. Obviously he's not cheap...he just passed the largest budget in U.S. history. Cheapskates are people who have money but don't like to spend it...a stingy person...one who tries to avoid paying a fair share of costs or expenses. People who live in the ghetto usually don't have money to spend.

I use ghetto in that sense too. Ghetto is now used in different ways besides just a physical ghetto...I'm from a small rural town, I know I'm not the only one who knows this.
