Is SCF and other Trade Sites Hurting eBay?

I agree with the individual who stated that, if anything, sites of this nature hurt brick and mortar hobby stores. As far as trade sites like this hurting Ebay, I would imagine the "dent" that a site like this could make to Ebay sales is negligible at best--maybe the guy is trying to justify his poor sale results.

Any dent that would be made would be in the lower end market--low end patches/GU, base and commons. As far as higher end items or old vintage items, no effect whatsoever, IMHO.

the guy thinks that trade sites are killing eBay? Ridiculous; I don't see why people would want to go to eBay and pay outrageous prices when you have the opportunity to go on a trade site and get rid of cards you don't want, to get a card that you do. Sounds like the guy is backwards in his thought process. I for one would rather be on here trying to get cards for my PC and have interface time with traders so that I know I won't be ripped off on card condition. Just my opinion though...

Agree ebay is hurting ebay.

The guy sounds like a jerk esp. since he wouldnt give you his ID.

For the most part people can get just about anything they want @ the bay eventually.. But some stuff is just hard to find here, Or in my case i dont have much 2 trade for it...

Sounds like a crybaby owner who doesnt like competition..

What this aspect of the hobby needs is competition to eBay - maybe sites like CheckOutMyCards, Sportslot, and Sportsbuy/Naxcom can somehow step up. What makes it difficult is that even though these sites are specifically geared towards sports cards/etc, eBay still has a much wider selection of cards even though it does not deal with that area only.

eBay may be slowly killing itself, but right now there is no potential competition in sight that could rival eBay [in terms of cards] and make things better for the hobby. Until then, eBay will continue to be the sole big enough source of cards for buyers/sellers.

i get my cards online becuase theyre cheaper and the net has the widest selection...
