Also ESPN said this is mainly due to attract free agents even more to come to Detroit, that makes it seem like Avery Johnson will be the coach because of how successful he was with the Mavs (yes even with a sub 500 record in the postseason)

They went to the Finals with Avery regardless of his Postseason record. Laimbeer would be a fan favorite but why bring in another unexperienced NBA coach??? Didn't work before and never works with teams that are good.

Yea, i was just saying because i thought someone would bring his postseason record up when i said how successful he's been..i'd rather take Collins or Johnson over Laimbeer simply because they are more expierenced coaching in the NBA

Gotcha. Don't they have a pretty decent set of assistant coaches that may step in?? Or do you think Dumars wants to swing for the fences

I dont think any are ready yet, Curry was the next in line, and he wasnt ready at all if that says anything..Basically Dumars wants a previous successful coach to attract free agents (Boozer and/or Gordon)

He better get a coach quick then!!!! Sorta weird timing in my mind. About 12 hours before Free Agency opens.

Still waiting until right before it opens is strange. Now if Boozer goes back to his old ways (saying he'll sign with you then leave for money) it could cost you guys.

    Top 3 coach candidates

    Johnson
Avery Johnson claims to have not heard from the Pistons about a coaching job. Its very unlikely Dumars would fire a coach without having the replacement already.

    Collins
“My family and I have an understanding and they know I want to do it (coach) one more time,” Collins said during a phone interview from his home in Arizona. “It has to be the right situation, but everybody knows I have a great affection for Detroit and the Pistons organization. They are committed to winning.”

    John Kuester
Cavs assistant coach, Former Pistons assistant coach
