I can't stand bustin boxes for this very reason, I really never feel like I get my moneys worth out of it. Say maybe 1 in 4 boxes is a good one (no reasearch, just my own personal experience), plus boxes always have that "One Man's trash is another man's treasure" feel to them. I have seen people chowder in their cheerios pulling a "hit" that happens to be Richard Brodeur and complain about a crud break, where as I would have loved that box and been happy with my money spent, even if I didn't "break even" ...I save my money for singles. Now I do understand the "addict" in us needs to bust wax every once in a while, so I do have to buy some from time to time to keep the habit satied, and normally I am not happy and go back to buying singles. Just my thoughts.

Some different opinions so far, which is good. I think I feel guilty sometimes though when someone else buys me a box and I don't get anything good. If it's my money, then I'm okay with getting $3 back on a $125 box.

Sidney Crosby's home phone number, an Ovechkin Cup RC, Carey Price's gold medal from the World Juniors, and 2 Wayne Gretzky BGS 10 RCs. All from one pack of OPC. Anything less is a complete and utter waste of my time.

Strangely enough, the Ovechkin Cup rc would be worth the least And if my memory serves me correctly, you would get Mario Lemieux's number as well if you get Sid's home number.

I don't expect much and then I am never disappointed. A few pc items in a box is a bonus or a good trader. However I would like to hit the lottery just once before I turn my collection over to my boys.

Being a set collector a good break for me is getting a complete set or a good start to the set. Granted some sets like OPC need multiple boxes and some help from my fellow collectors on this site. Any PC cards pulled is a plus.

Now that my 7 year old is getting into hockey cards it make any box break more enjoyable.

I agree, i have no problem with buying a box myself and getting nobody, but usually when my parents buy me stuff(usually retail) and i don't get anyone good i feel guilty, that's when i try to look at it from a "opening for the fun of it" point of view as opposed to getting ur money back.

I think as a consumer buying expensive items that advertise big hits, you have ever right to expect a great box every time. I think for $500 a box, you should be able to send upper deck you want list and they should customize a box for you. Maybe the next great thing, no more disapointed collectors, but we would end up 30,000 Crosby 1/1 patch auto stick hair cards

I envy the collectors who can spend $1000's on boxes and not get killed by their wifes............lol

I always hope to hit the averages, pull some cards of my team even if it's base and pull one decent card. It makes me mad to spend $80 on a box and the best card I get is worth $10.

I consider a nice break to be something the meets all the odds, but you do get a couple of 'nicer' pulls in there. If you're buying a box of Upper Deck Series 1, for example, you're going to expect 6 YGs, 2 Jerseys, and a fist full of inserts, and an UD Exclusives. I never expect the case hit. I declare bad break when my YGs and Jersey are all commons. Good break if the majority are not commons.

LOL Sweet dual phone number card!

In all seriousness, a couple decent traders and a nice PC item are generally all it takes to make me happy. I only broke boxes of 3 products this season: OPC, Black Diamond, and Habs Centennial. OPC was a ton of fun just because of the retro set, Black Diamond I was putting the set together, and Centennial had 24 packs per box of PC items. :)

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
