So, my question would be...
What is the barometer for you guys to consider him a success?
Points/Rebounds?
Taking his team to the playoffs in the first year/2nd year/3rd year? Championship rings?
Just curious, so we can revisit this thread in 6 months, or a year, or two years down the road.
(OH...and the Poo Nanny about this being a "weak class." Clippers management, made the comment that if they had the 1st pick in LAST YEARS draft, and Griffin had declared, that they would have taken Griffin. Thunder VP said the same thing. That if Griffin would have been available in last years draft, they would have taken him at the 4 spot)
I just remember having this same argument with a bunch of football fans in 2006, when I said Adrian Peterson was the best running back, I've ever seen play the game. They called me crazy, and a "homer" and all of that. Told me, that he wouldnt be that great in the NFL. Yet, I had been attending College footbal games for 25+ years, and was confident in my assessment. The same applies here. Blake Griffin is the best basketball player I've seen in College in a LONG LONG time. I understand the fact that College is Different than NBA. But, its the intangibles, that he possesses that give him the ability to be one of the best to play the game. I feel confident in my assessment.Last edited by Filthy; 07-22-2009 at 04:16 PM.

I hear that!
Usually Danny Ferry isn't that good at drafting, but I feel like we got Green for a steal. He was projected to be a top 20 pick at one point wasn't he?

This draft class was weak...Griffin is going to be a solid player, but how many other players out of this draft do you think will play important roles on their teams? Just because one player is good, doesn't make the entire draft class good.
Also, Peterson isn't the best running back to have played the game like you said. He has a long way to go, and I don't think he will be the best to ever play the game.
Jim Brown will forever be the greatest running back in NFL history.

I was in agreement that this is a very weak class. But, that shouldnt reflect badly upon Griffin. If Griffin would have been in last years class....he still would have been a Top 3 pick...if not the #1 overall. (Depending on what a given teams needs were) But, there are alot of people trying to relate a weak class to the reason Griffin wont be a star.
Just not finding the corralation between the two.
Also, Peterson isn't the best running back to have played the game like you said.
Man. Reading comprehension Owns all of you guys. I made the comment, that Adrian Peterson is the best running back, I've ever seen play the game. I'm 33 years old. So, there is no way, I had the ability to see Jim Brown or Gale Sayers play. I saw alot of Walter Payton, Eric Dickerson, and Bo Jackson. growing up. And growing up in Oklahoma, I havent missed a home game since 1983, or a Texas game since 1987. Have also atteneded all bowl games. So, in my eyes, Ive seen alot of RBs come and go. I got to see alot of Barry Sanders in person as well. I am still sticking by saying Adrian Peterson is the best RB, I've ever seen play. In my lifetime and beyond. Only time will tell, becasue he could blow out a knee at any time. But when the dust settles, he will be mentioned in the same breath as Walter Payton, Jim Brown, and Gale Sayers.
Jim Brown will forever be the greatest running back in NFL history.
Thats your opinion, and I have nothing to dispute that!!!

The people that say Griffin can't be a star because of the weak draft class are stupid. If anything, it might help his cause since he can really separate himself from everyone else in that class.
Fair enough...he is the best you have seen, but I'd say that Barry Sanders is better than AP, but that is my opinion, and no, I'm sorry, I don't have a link.

DISCLAIMER - all of the above post is my opinion and if it offends anyone I will edit it. I have no problems with Nickrads (Like the kid alot actually, seems like a great poster and good guy on the site) or Filthy, but to attack me over an opinion and continue is ridiculous.
I'll talk about my thoughts on him in a moment. If you need some help for a link from where I got my stats, they came from nba.com, google.com, wikipedia.com and nbadraftexpress
My Goodness, can you please PM me where I can get these steals on Beasley autos? When I made the comparisson I had no idea Beasley was this low...I thought his autos were selling a little under OJ's in the higher 80's-90's and lower 100's. There is no way in **** Blake's get to be like a derrick where his are going for what 250 now and thats what I've been offering and can't get anyone to sell a Rose haha.
I admit I am at fault for not checking how low Beasley autos were going, but I havent seen one go for 30-40 recently at all, in fact I have seen them for the low 90's and low 100's as I posted above
Ok onto Filthy - You were right about AP? Congrats, anybody that watched him could have known the kid was going to be a Superstar in the league, I was furious when we passed on him for Landry and the fact that he slipped down that low, Adrian has been projected to be an NFL star since he was running over kids 'all day' in high school and as a freshman.
and you need reading comp I guess as well since I am not a naysayer of Griffin's, Beasley has just as much upside, more IMO, and I'll post why in a moment.
As I mentioned I like Griffin, but some of these comparisons are ridiculous. He has the drive, motivation, and work ethnic, something not see out of Beasley yet, so think about that..if Beasley does get that work ethic then wouldn't you think his upside is higher considering Blake is playing working out as hard as he can (you honestly can't do to much more then he is in the weight room).
Please don't sleep on Beasley, look at Kevin (his former teammate, etc)..Durant struggled finding his own his rookie year and look at him now...he's going to be a 35+ ppg scorer this year or next year EASY if OKC doesn't bring in another volume shooter.
If you think Blake's upside > Beasly, then you must not have watched as much basketball as you claim or you missed Beasley's freshman year vs Griffin's freshman year.
If Blake was better then Beasly he would have left school last year when Beasly did as well
now some "stat's" for comparison.
Griffin is a 4 in the NBA and will be that..Beasley can play the 3/4 which IMO makes him more valuable there that he can stay on the court longer and you can run him at either position. Blake could reach a level where he can play the 3, but he is not there yet, Beasley is there (why he isn't - his ballhanding/shooting is not that of a 3 wing).
As far as comparables for body:
blake is 6.85 without shoes, 6'10 with shoes, wingspan of 6'11.5 and a standing reach of 8'9.
Beasley is 6'7 without shoes, 6'8.5 with shoes, wingspan of 7 and a standing reach of 8'11.
So Mike's there with Blake, but can play the two positions and has longer arms (which seems to be a good thing in the NBA, or do I need to post a picture of Prince for "proof"?)
Now I'm not going to take the time to post the college stats, but we know what Mike did in College as it was posted alread..higher PPG, lower RPG (if you use Griffin's second year numbers). However they both lead the country in rebounding, Beasley the year he was in school, blake the year he wasn't, so if blake was head and shoulders above he would have been doing his thing the first year too. (and blake had a good first year, nothing like Mike's though). if you really want to get into stats Beasley averaged more blocks/steals then blake, but that IMO doesn't matter too much in college.
and for the record - Mike's NBA stats:
14 ppg in 24.8 minutes is super impressive for a rookie and someone who never had to come off the bench in their life. Once he gets a starter's role he will be able to increase it to what it should be.
spew diarrhea huh? I wasn't trying to be hostile at all and still am not, but my Lord did I hit a soft spot by saying that.
I'll give you that I should have been more specific in why I thought he had more upside, but give me a chance to respond. And I will also admit as I posted above, I agree with you about Blake's work ethic and motivation are head and shoulders above Beasley, but based on raw talent, Beasley has more upside if he can get it in his thick head to put in the extra work it takes to be a star.
And my last point is that I think Mike will get his head on straight and everything worked out as he is learning from a Superstar and the only person Blake has to learn from is Baron "i take games off when I'm not happy" Davis and Chris "i'll play for germany since the US doesn't want me" Kaman.

Im pretty sure i said AI in his prime will be better then Blake, you should actually READ my comment before you post something. Also yeah your wrong once again on Beasley Autos. Apparently you think they sold for like $100 or something like that. Maybe you should do some more research first. And i said Maynor will be ONE of the best PG's in the draft. proving to me once again you didnt read my full statement. Also Griffin has been compared to Amare on ALOT of sites, i guess you either missed those or didnt read the full paragraph
