i think its a group called NHL21 headed by a guy named McGannon? We were in the running for the Pens (till we realized mario was just using the Sprint Center as leverage to get an arena in Pittsburgh) But I dont think Bettman will let the Coyotes leave Phoenix even if he did I doubt we could support a team. There was a preseason game Blues vs. Kings at Sprint Center and it was dead quiet in there. KC is not a hockey town at all
btw we're getting a CHL team this season they're playing in a new arena in a suburb hopefully that will help grow the game here as well as having a rink. Currently the only real ice rink is a half hour away from downtown.
Hope this helps if you have any other questions about KC hockey I'm sure I'm the one that can answer it.(Am I the only guy on the hockey boards from KC??? Lol)

There was a fairly popular rumor that the Isles were gonna be going to KC.

No no! They're coming to Saskatoon. Or at least we are gonna borrow them for a couple of games. lol
Think I might have a few Tavares auto's to play around with afterwards.
Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

this is EXACTLY why i was asking why not phoenix? the isles used KC as a blind threat to get a new building. phoenix is bankrupt, in the middle of the desert, and had a terrible team last year. why NOT move them to KC?

yeah we've been hearing that a lot lately especially since there's another preseason game Kings vs Isles so that should show the true demand is for hockey since there are quite a few Blues fans (including me) who just went to see the Blues play. The only successful hockey team we've had hear was an IHL team during the 90s named the Blades. There was also a UHL team that played during the 04-05 they were gone after just one season. Back to the Isles I bet if Tavares makes the team has a good season that will help the Isles just like Crosby helped the Pens

If you read a lot of the in depth rumors around the Nashville debacle, it sounded to me like the plan was to have them end up in KC. Boots DelBiaggio (spelling of the name might be wrong ??) was the guy who 'saved' the Preds, and is now going to jail for fraud. He's apparently a friend of whoever the governor of the Kings is (and AEG exec) and that's who lent him a lot of the money to be able to buy into the Preds. AEG also owns the rink in KC. There's a lot of speculation that he would have tried moving to KC after a couple of years losing money in Nashville.
It's a beauty of an arena. I was in KC a couple of summers ago (went for Royals vs Blue Jays) and we drove by it. From the outside it looked great. Talking to a few people though, no one expected to ever get a hockey team. They didn't see the point. It was a pretty unofficial survey (talked to a handful of people @ the ball park) but none of them thought that there would be any interest.

If i'm not mistaken I think Delbaiggio was also part of a group who tried to move a team here.
As for the Sprint Center it's a great arena but really the only thing its used for is concert there is no anchor tenant so really imo if they can't find an tenant either NHL or NBA (
please no) its was a waste of money. And as you said there really isn't much interest in hockey here. As I stated before though Hopefully interest will rise due to this new arena and CHL team.
Btw you should come back to watch another Royals vs. Jays game we recently renovated Kauffman and it's awesome!

What changes have they made? (I was there in Summer of '07). While this is going completely off topic... I've got to say: I've been to a little better than half of the parks in MLB, and Kauffman has been (so far) my favorite. Beauty place to catch a game.
