More Impressive: A Perfect Game or a Quadruple-double
Well, i originally saw this talked about on ESPN first take, and there was a poll saying that the Perfect game was more impressive. So I thought this will be an interesting topic to talk about on this forum.
To be fair, I think this thread should also be copied to the baseball forum, if that's possible.
Now first of all, I don't want to take anything away from a Perfect Game, it is one of the most impressive accomplishments to see in sports. However, a Quadruple-double is nearly impossible to get.
There have only been 4 quadruple-doubles recorded ever in the NBA, and since the last Quadruple-double was recorded in 1994, there have been 4 other Perfect Games recorded in MLB.
Here are the players who have gotten a Quad-double:
Nate Thurmand in 1974
Alvin Robertson in 1986
Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990
David Robinson in 1994
Here are the players who pitched a Perfect Game:
Lee Richmond in 1880
John Montgomery Ward in 1880
Cy Young in 1904
Addie Joss in 1908
Charlie Robertson in 1922
Don Larsen in 1956
Jim Bunning in 1964
Sandy Koufax in 1965
Catfish Hunter in 1968
Len Barker in 1981
Mike Witt in 1984
Tom Browning in 1988
Dennis Martínez in 1991
Kenny Rogers in 1994
David Wells in 1998
David Cone in 1999
Randy Johnson in 2004
Mark Buehrle in 2009
So you be the judge and i hope baseball fans are able to enlighten me, but please don't be a prisoner of the moment.Last edited by jeebus86; 07-24-2009 at 01:54 PM.

You can't cross-over sports like that. Apples and oranges, you know.
But seeing as how you have to be good at everything to get a quadruple double, and you only have to be good at one thing to pitch a perfect game, I vote quad.

i disagree, i say perfect game, because with a quad double, you are relying on only the other 4 players on your team. with a perfect game, in addition to you pitching fantastically, you have to rely on the 8 guys behind you to also be flawless- then you have to count on getting 9 professional hitters to fail every single time they come to the plate, with no exceptions...
again, not taking anything away from a quad double, its absolutely amazing, but it can be achieved more individually than can a perfect game, and for that reason, I say perfect game

Well, espn did it, and people voted for the perfect game, so I thought we should be able to defend the quad-double.

I'd say quad double because even though you may have to rely on your defense in baseball you have to rely more on your teammates in basketball when you're assisting and scoring.

i see what youre saying, the difference is, in a quad double, you have a margin of error. you can miss a shot, or your teammate can miss a shot, and you still can get a quad double. with a perfect game, if you miss anything- the strike zone for one pitch, or if the guy misses a play behind you- then the perfect game is gone

I'm defintly going to agree with you Ed, a perfect game, you have to rely on all 8 of your teammates, there cant be any errors, no hits and no walks, which is hard to do..this isnt whats harder to do, a quad-double may be harder to do, but not more impressive, the you can have a minimum of 10 points/assists/rebounds/steals/blocks etc etc, Baseball there is no minimum to throwing a perfect game, you have no leway at all..
and ironically, the ones who think the Quad-Double is more impressive also are mainly if not only Basketball fans, i havent seen a Baseball/Basketball fan say the no hitter besides myself/Ed
