Need Immediate Help!! Help with paypal!!!

    So, heres the story.

I sold an item on craigslist to this person in Nigeria for $120+$100 shipping. I then recieve an e-mail from paypal saying that they need the tracking # from me and the money will stay in the "pending stage" (not in my account yet) until it is confirmed that the item is recieved. I send it to them and everything is going well. Now, I recieve an e-mail from the person saying the item got held up by Nigeria customs and he wants me to send him $300 via Western Union Money Transfer. I told my dad about this and he said that we aren't going to send the money because he thinks the guy is trying to scam us. So, my mom went to the post office and told them the whole story. The lady at the PO said that there is no reason that it should get held up by customs and she gave us a phone # to call. She also told us that they have been having problems with people form Nigeria and around that area.

I haven't called the phone # yet, and my question has to do with filing a dispute with paypal.

When I go to file a dispute on paypal they give you 2 options.

Option 1: Item dispute: I did not receive an item I purchased or the item I received is significantly not as described

Option 2: Unauthorized transaction: I did not authorize a recent transaction.

I don't think that my problem fits either category... So can somebody please tell me what I should do? Thanks!

I would call the PayPal customer service for help. I'm not sure how helpful they'll be, but they can at least tell you what steps to take.

Definitely, definitely, definitely don't send any money to the guy...he is trying to scam you. Nigeria should be the first red flag...a very large portion of the scams that are going around now are based there. Even if it's not a scam (which I'm sure it is), why should you have to pay to get his item out of customs? That's his responsibility.

Haha. No don't send the western union money. Nigeria and Western union equals scam 99 percent of the time. Craigslist is full of scams. If you use craigslist, only use it for the local area.

    100% of the time ....

    No doubt about it.

DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!! and consider your item that you sold gone because it will never get there, and you will never get your money from paypal either. They either used a stolen or fake credit card to pay you with and once the funds are found fraudulent by paypal they will remove them from your account.

Sorry bout your luck, watch out next time.

I almost said 100%, but I figured there has to be one case that actually turned out real. Who knows?
