Make your own cards (Custom made)
I am sick and tired of Upper Deck and not being able to have a team set bigger than 15 players. I am also tired of having always the same 5 old timers to collect. I've decided to create my own custom made hockey cards and stop collecting Upper Deck. ITG is not an option because it has in my opinion the ugliest designs I've ever seen.
Can anybody show me how to create my own custom made 1/1 hockey cards and have them printed on existing templates (such as UD the cup). I love the designs upper deck have but I despise the fact that there are 15 different sets with the same checklist.
I would want to create my own jerseys (I would buy one jersey and divide it into the 30+ players playing that year, patches would go to the best players).
If anybody is selling or making such cards, I would be more than willing to buy them from you guys. I don't know if this would be a violation of the NHL/UD monopoly. I am not interested in resale and I am not interested in my cards having any value then the one in my own mind.
If somebody can recommend anything that would help me, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

I'm working on a couple custom ones to add to my original 6 Wings 03/04 set. Howe wasn't included seeing is ITG made the set. I was going to start with a high res scan and maybe have a print shop put it on that size stock.

Irony - hating UD but wanting to use their designs.
A lot of folks, including here, do some custom cards but I do believe that there may be copyright issues involved with selling cards that rely upon UD designs. Legal action by one card company against another over using old designs does have precedent.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

RGM81, do you work for Upper Deck? Can you read?
The fact that Upper Deck has a monopoly on NHL cards, is that a fair market? Monopolies should be boycotted and not endorsed, people should wake up and act accordingly (by not buying their stuff).
I've collected hockey cards from 1982 to 1991, I stopped in 1992 after the market went amok on itself. I recently started collecting again because I was amazed on how great looking was The Cup product. Little did I know that the product made no sense at all. 3 Base cards from the Montreal Canadiens made me laugh my head off! Great design, zero content!
I mentioned that I LOVE the Upper Deck designs but the content is what makes the product overwhelmingly undesirable.
Let me change my question to... Can someone please show me how to create my own cards? I do not intend to sell any cards for money, this is my way of showing the trading card world that they have no idea what they are doing (I can only speak about hockey)!

i dont think you understand the concept of The Cup. The base set is only 60 cards, how many of them do you want to be Habs? 5 out of 60 base cards are habs! The Cup is a very limited run, if they were to add a larger base set they would either have to make the base cards rarer or make the autos and patches less rare, meaning they would have less value. The Cup is not a team builders set. Try OPC, they have a very large set of base cards.

The cup isn't about base cards they're pretty much just filler. If you want to make custom cards though use photoshop or MS paint not sure how to print them though.

actually, i've been tinkering with this idea as well, some for myself, and some to disperse around as thank yous or whatever..
honestly, if you can get familiar with photoshop, as you can truly do some amazing things in it i've been finding out for years..
and honestly, just do an image to scale of an actual hockey card, 3.5 inches length by 2.5 inches height. design an area as well for your jersey piece, or fake auto or whatever, and get it printed on a medium to higher grade (depending on cost where you are) photo adhesive paper.
then get some card size rectangles cut out of the proper stock thickness you'd like to use of cardboard..
imo, the best method to use would be cardboard layer on bottom, middle cardboard layer with cutout for jersey or patch if using this, then another top layer of cardboard with the same cutout, then your top layer of adhesive photo paper with the image. glue your jersey/patch to the middle cardboard layer, to almost get the look of say, a scripted swatches or something, and you can also cut nice thick ones from a jersey and have them pretty deep down in the card..
not sure if this really helps or not, but this is basically the simplest template i'm going to go with when i start printing mine
