Crazy Olajuwon Ebay Auction
I was just doing my nightly Olajuwon Ebay check and came across this auction. I couldn't believe my eyes. Either there must be some kind of mistake or this guy knows nothing about cards. Am I the only one that sees a problem with this auction? Please let me know if there is something I am missing here.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if this guy actually knows anything about cards or even basketball at all. I know some people might not know about the name change but where did he get the $500 price from? I got my BGS 8 Michael Jordan rookie for less than that.

Yeah, that was very common. casual collectors that didn't really follow the sport thought they had an error card (which was quite a collecting fad in the early 90's). Beckett had an article in one of their issues about him changing the spelling. Ahmad Rashad also talked about it in his weekly NBA show. Hakeem added the H to the proper Arabic spelling if I remember correctly.
A similar auction was posted here a few weeks ago. The seller thought he had a Michael Jordan error card. The 1990 Hoops Sam Vincent has MJ in the picture wearing a #12 jersey so the collector thought he'd stumbled on a treasure. Turns out it's only worth $1.50.
When I see these auctions I just have a silent laugh and move on.

I was wondering that too. How did they get into the holder without being touched by human hands. Maybe he used a set of tweezers to get them in there, or maybe he used some non-human hands like from a pet monkey. Maybe he just wore a pair of gloves so technically they wouldn't touch his hands.

I remember that Sam Vincent card. Michael Jordan's 23 jersey came up missing before the game in that card so he had to wear 12.
I've seen some pretty funny auctions but that one made me laugh out loud.
So I see there is another Navy guy on here other than me. I just received a new David Robinson auto card in the mail today. It is a Press Pass card with him in his Navy uniform and with a "Go Navy" inscription on it. I'll post it in a little bit. You should check it out. Judging by your profile you are an Officer so you probably have seen the Navy Uniform in person.
