I had something interesting go down.. Would love to hear a few opinions. Not quite sure what the hell to think of this.

Local/rec game every Tuesday. VERY first hand I am on the button(the only tip I get as dealer) and I pick up pocket aces. 5-6 limpers until me which I raise 5x blind. I get 1 caller to flop. 4-5-6 flop and the caller leads for 33% of chip stack. I call and a 2 hits on the turn and he goes all in.

I should have made my decision on the flop.... But could any of you guys fold that hand on the FIRST HAND!!!! My decision should of been all in or fold after the flop instead of calling. The guy I was against is one of the better players and ranks #3 in our standings/$$bottom line... Him/myself and one other guy are all within 50 bucks of each other.

I did fold the hand on the turn thinking that this guy would limp call with a small pocket pair and I was pretty much doomed on that board. It turned out I was wrong and he had jacks. The ONLY positive that came out of this was that I gained back some rep as a good player as I was becoming somewhat predictable and a known aggressive player to most there. A few still think that they have to call me lucky(even though I can do both)

    Thanks guys
    Jay

You probably did the right thing, but the thing that would be going through my head at that point is would he call such a raise before the flop with a small pocket pair. I would of but him on high suited connectors or just high cards.

Need the texture of the players/play here to be sure but here is my thinking in MY home game if played as you did.

5 or 6 limpers and I make it 5X to go from the button (I would like to see 6X but 5 is fine.)

I get 1 caller- Now is where I have to put villian on a hand, forgetting about the flop for now.

Is villian likely to play a tiny PP here? A mid suited connector? Only high cards?

Flop is 456? Is it rainbow? Are there 2 of the same suit on the board?

Caller leads into me with 1/3 of his stack. Now is where your read comes into play.

Does he have a set? Unlikely because he should try a C/R here because he knows YOU have a big hand.

I PUSH on the flop and leave the decision to him. I THINK the only hane I am worried about here is 55.

The fold on the turn is weak because he has you beat almost never when a 2 hits.

Thanks for the comments guys.. Felt a lot better after sleeping it off. Hell its only 22 buy in. Still would love to hear an opinion or two because it seems like a good discussion and getting mixed opinions.

To fill in some more details for you Jlz. Both the villain and myself know each other very well. I know he is willing to get frisky with connectors when he isn't short stacked and plays suited connectors or even one apart pretty frequently. With that I don't think he would rule out a pocket pair on the first hand for 5x the bet.... The board was 2 of a suit at best but never crossed my hand because the turn didn't hit the flush draw. I have heard it from him personally that he will do his best to go all in with what he thinks is the best hand. He has been playing as one of those types who will play down to the last measly chip if he has to.

The idea that he put me on a big hand is a good thought too. Being able to replay everything, I am one to shy away from raises unless its a bigger hand(can limp with the big hand too). I love to make moves post flop.

The part that gets me confused is that you think 55 is the only hand to worry about.. How is 55 different from 66 or 44. Going through my head would be that anything 88 or 99 and better would be at least a standard raise from him and anything less, including big cards, would be called. I agree that folding on the turn was somewhat weak. It was a decision of push or fold on that flop. I did want to close the OP out like I did though because I wanted to try and get people thinking about my style of play again because I was becoming a bit predictable, and showing those aces would help.

There are a few things I would like to add, but I hate it when I feel redundant in posting.

    thanks
    Jay
