Rio Gets the Olympics - Disaster for Obama?
I thought when President Obama campaigned for Chicago to get the 2016 Olympics he was taking a HUGE political risk. I honestly hoped he was successful getting the Olympics (even though I thought Chicago was a bad city) because it is good economically for America. I thought if he failed it would be a political disaster for him home and abroad.
Does this failure bring President Obama down to earth internationally? Shouldn't his advisers warned him of the political risk should Chicago NOT get selected?
Interesting video as Chicago got the LOWEST votes:

He did make a nice speach and I give him credit for trying. Its nice he went to bat for his hometown. Chicago was a easy #3 choice at best. I don't see harming to much here or abroad. Having a beer with the guys seems to be a bigger issue.

But you know how much money they have to spent to get this going. This shows that he has not that much of power around the world.

"Chicago was knocked out in the first round — in one of the most shocking defeats ever handed down by the International Olympic Committee
. Even Tokyo, which had trailed throughout the race, did better — eliminated after Chicago in the second round."
NewsFlash- Obama was allready hurt. We just didnt know it and apparently obama didnt know it either. The rest of the world doesnt get our media as a filter. Incase anyone missed it, the only people that have been praising Obama are the Tyrants and dictators. Most of the Civilized nations are no longer fans of Obama. I suspect They find him inexperienced, Naive, and extremely arrogant. I think going there to give a "speech" was the worst thing he could have done. they sent a message that im sure we/he wont receive.

I personally don't consider this a defeat for Obama...maybe it's just me, but I see hosting the Olympics as a luxury, nothing that is a must have.
I think it would have been more of a political disaster if Obama hadn't lobbied for them. He becomes President, then won't even help his adopted hometown with this? That would have looked much worse.

exactly, the whole Olympic bid has nothing to do with Obama or the U.S. as a worldly power. They were looking into which city had the better pros for hosting, who had the best strategy of getting everything checked off and accomplished, who had the accommodations for everything that needed to be planned

It doesnt get any better than this. I just saw a news clip of a reporter interviewing Roland Burris. Guess who he blamed for Chicago not getting the olympics??????? wait for it..........George W. Bush. Way to go Burris. You are still a jack***.
