And with no one around to savor some slow roasted dru it would be too much of a waste to put the effort into something no one would get to enjoy

It only takes one of these viruses or bacteria to get out of control and cause massive damage. We can control this better then before. Why not do it? It could be argued that latest Avian flu did not get out of control because we were so acutely aware of it.

The Spanish flu pandemic lasted from 1918 to 1919, although Price-Smith's data suggest it may have begun in Austria in the Spring of 1917.[30] Older estimates say it killed 40–50 million people[31] while current estimates say 50 million to 100 million people worldwide were killed.[32] This pandemic has been described as "the greatest medical holocaust in history" and may have killed as many people as the Black Death [33], although the Black Death is estimated to have killed over a fifth of the world's population at the time [34], a significantly higher proportion.

The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30% to 60% of Europe's population, reducing the world's population from an estimated 450 million to between 350 and 375 million in 1400

Egypt terminated hundreds of thousands of pigs to avoid the swine flu. Anyways I compare any media attention of H1N1 to SARS. It has to be reported though because if there was a fatal epidemic and the media refused to inform the public of its dangers and steps to avoid it then they would be at fault.

This is a good point. I do think they are overdoing it. We just need to watch it and let the CDC do their job. They are pretty good at containing epidemics and pandemics.

Its obvious that the people need to be informed, but not to the point where they are using scare tactics. That way people can be prepared. I know I've been eaing better and taking vitamins lately (which I should do always) so my immune system stays up.

Yeah it is true. I agree with you. I just think people should just be aware and take the usually precautions such as washing hands. Closing down schools is a good idea if you have 40 children in a population of a 1000-2000 though. How many kids practice good hand hygeine? Many of them would be infected in a matter of weeks. Better to close a school for a week then risk lives.

Just wanted to add that my wife has noticed an increase in absences by both teachers and students this fall. She also said that many of the students are missing more than a day which is usually a sign they weren't just taking a day off.

The H1N1 is TOTALLY blown out of proportion. Seasonal Flu has claimed more lives by far then this flu. And this so-called h1n1 vaccine--yeah right, they took a preservative free & thimerasol free seasonal flu vaccine, changed up one strain and Boom there's your h1n1 vax! Was not throughourly tested, is actually still in testing and b/c of this MANY people will go without the seasonal flu vax which is worse b/c the gov't had all manufacturers stop production of the seasonal flu.
Something else, all these h1n1 "exposures" aren't 100% legit. Testing for h1n1 is only 40% correct distinguishing the virus. The main reason it's being blown up the way it is b/c it's not technically regular flu season so they are blaming the h1n1. It could be either one.

What about having to go at specific times and dates to get the H1N1 vaccine and the supposed shortages. I'd say the timing is a little too convenient. We are told that everybody needs them. Its a big emergency. Everybody goes to a certain place at a certain time to get the shot and there are long lines, waits, shortages of the vaccines, etc... Standing around with massive amounts of negative, unhappy people, with babies crying all around you. Nobody would be in a good mood standing around waiting to get a shot anyway. I'd say that a lot more people would be in support of "healthcare reform" after that. The miserable experience would be fresh on their minds. Of coarse, healthcare reform has zero to do with it, but its aimed at the uninformed masses who pay no attention to politics(obama voters). They would simply say that H1N1 ordeal sucked. I support healthcare reform. Thats the goal anyway.
