Gay Marriage - A minority view?

Legal Unions schmooonions, a marriage is a marriage is a marriage plain and simple, I don't give two sheets what a church say's or doesn't say is "religous". Since when did the church gain so much power as to tell people what is right and wrong? This is what is wrong with America ... too many people following the word of other people instead of choosing and thinking for themselves!

Here's a great one. My wife was previously married, so when we went to get married the church tells her "oh your marriage was never annuled and you will need to pay us $250 to have that marriage annuled".

I literally laughed at the priest of that church and told them "thanks but no thanks, she's divorced in the eye of the law and that's all that matters, maybe we'll just go get married on the beach somewhere" and that's exactly what we did! We flew to Jamaica and got married on the beach!!

Here's a great example of what I'm talking about ....

My sister in laws are gay, both have partners. Their father who is 63 accepts it but does not for one minute like the fact they are gay and when the vote came up here in Florida he voted against it. His choice, sure but come on man you have two gay daughters and you say that "as long as their happy, that's all that matters to me" but do you really mean it!?!?!?!

Meanwhile he is married to a 29 year old woman who was formerly his daughters best friend in high school ....

Where's the morals and values eh???

Look I'm all for limited involvement by Government but IMO this was a great step in by them and it's about **** time. We live in a world where people are still shunned due to their race, religion, creed and sexual preference. This is the 21st Century people it's time to wake up and get smart, stop living in the 1900's and let people do as they please!

Ever notice tht throughout Americas history some segment of the population has been discriminated against; from the blacks & Chinese to Japanese during the war to the gays of today. The biggest shame in the world is that America so openly descriminates against gays from marriage to serving in the military. The face we need to even argue their right to exist in America is disgraceful and shame on anyone who thinks they are 2nd class citizens not deserving of full rights and freedoms

It's funny you mention that because my little sister in laws partner IS in the military as well. She's getting ready to go over to Kuwait in Jan. for a year ....

Now say something were to happen to her, her partner (my SIL) would be left with nothing except a broken heart, all because the Church and government say they are not a "legally recognized couple".

I have a lot of gay friends from both sexes. I think that they should get all the same benefits that we have. They should be the ones choosing and not church, politicians.

I wouldn't compare what gays go through today to slavery or to what the American-Japanese went through during World War II. Not even close!

I look at marriage as a religious thing. I think there should be "legal unions" that give gay couples equal rights under the law (for taxes, wills, etc). I just think it is the right of religious organizations to define marriage since they came up with it. This is my belief and I'm atheist!

Let me ask you this, Sunny Jim. If the majority of Americans voted to outlaw marriage for black people, would you just toss up your arms and go, "Oh, majority rules!"? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you wouldn't be in favor of that. But it's OK to do that when you're talking about gays? How do you reconcile that in your mind? Is it "Well, black people didn't choose to be black, but gay people did choose to be gay, so they deserve what's coming to them!"? That's a distinctly Christian point of view, Mr. Calls Himself an Atheist. Or is it "It's OK for the state to discriminate against people I personally hate!"? I bet that's it, isn't it? If you really thought religion should have sole and total control over marriage, then you would be against all forms of state recognition of marriage, including tax cuts for married couples. And if you were really an atheist, you'd resolve to never get married yourself. The sanctity of marriage argument, in addition to being completely bogus, is also a distinctly Christian point of view.

I don't know if I'd call you a bigot, because while you may NOT be intolerant of them you definitely don't believe they should have the same rights.
