Need some thoughts on my PC!!!
A lot of you have seen my PC or pieces of it. (If you havnt the link is down below...lol) I got back into collecting in 05 06 and most of my PC is from then on. All Wings. Only Wings uni's. Only a few non red and white swatches....mostly Hasek. Now my ? is. I was considering collecting traded players older stuff in non Red Wings uniforms and different teams listed on the card. The first 2 quick examples would be Drew Miller or maybe Patrick Eaves. Maybe even a little Stuart Rafi and Big Bird...who knows.
But I kinda like and dont like the fact that my ENTIRE PC is Wings. I like it bc I kinda feel like a die hard fan. I kinda dont bc red and white in the patch happy collecting world gets kinda dull....Leafs fans you know what I mean
. Just wondering your thoughts on this!!! Thanks for the help in advance!

My collection is Red Wings as well; but I include all cards that either show the player in a Red Wings uni or state he currently plays for Detroit but may have swatches from other teams or all star games. Some of these are Hasek, Probert, and Hossa. I am currently down-sizing because there are just too many cards out there these days. Incredible collection I must say.

Do what feels right to you. Given the way the players change teams these days, you could end up cutting yourself out of getting some very cool rookie cards or patches & autos of players that suited up with other teams prior to coming to Detroit. The best way I can put it is a hypothetical/counterfactual: if Steve Yzerman's RC didn't show him as a Detroit Red Wing, would you not want a Steve Yzerman RC in your collection?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

My PC (as an avid Wings collector) is more on the purist side. I only want Wings shown in Wings uni's and with Wings swatches in it. I've even now gone so far as to dislike most GU cards and am moving all the ones I once had for the PC (unless they're RC's or have caught my eye for some reason)
Part of being a Wings collector is that there are so many others that it makes it hard to be picky about what you collect. If you go my route, you end up with a lot less trades just from the fact that no-one is willing to move the cards you want and if they are, most of the time they want a superstar for the 3rd line Wings guy.
I like a lot of your PC items though Josh. You've done a sweet job so far with the collection.

Helped quite a bit. A good example of my PC is the fact that I DO have a Yzerman RC but do not have a Hasek or Chelios RC. I even have an Avery RC (Who I kinda don't like...lol) strictly bc of the fact that he's in a Wings uni!
Keep em coming guys!!!!!

I have basically the exact same collection as you do, except it is with sharks. I will only collect current sharks players in their sharks uniforms. It does kind of bug me once in a while like the fact I dont have any heatley cards yet but then again, I dont really want to have cards of him in a sens or thrashers uniform. Its just the way I feel about my PC. I want it all to be sharks. Except maybe I have some thornton swatches from when he was on the bruins, but that doesnt bug me much because I dont want to be to picky.
Basically I think there are plenty of cards you could find of current red wings in their red wings uniform and if you want a change in your PC then maybe go for only high end rookie year cards of them (ex get some drew miller cup rookies or something)

I can only say what I collect..... obviously you've gotta grab what's right for you. Otherwise you're going to go out and trade for / purchase a bunch of cards that you're going to end up wanting to move again in a year or two.
For my Oilers PC, I've been working on getting 1 GU, 1 Auto, 1 RC, and 1 "pictured as an Oiler" of every player. Not picky about what Uniform they're pictured in, because not all those cards are made with them in an Oilers Uniform.
This means my Oilers PC will eventually contain 1-to-4 cards of every player who's played there. If I get someone like Tom Gilbert..... where I have a Patch / Auto RC (and he is an Oiler on the card) I only bother with the 1 card. I'll be looking for some kind of Ryan Stone base this year, to go along with my Patch / Auto RC from last year (where he's pictured as a Penguin).
For a lot of new players, it's not too hard to get all Oilers stuff, if I want (aside from the RCs) but for some older players, especially ones that weren't in Edmonton for very long, I don't have much of a choice. I'll use Adam Oates as an example. He spend one season in Edmonton. There was lots of base made of him as an Oiler, but no GU or Autos. If I want one (which I absolutely did) I had to get ones that had him shown as a Bruin. Not a big deal.
Regardless...... go for what you like.

I collect anyone on the Sabres, regardless of what uniform they are in, just the fact they are on my team is good enough for me. I say you collect Drew Miller, we'd collect brothers, and I have his Rookie Materials

I think you should give all your Lidstrom's to me! lol.
I know what you mean about the red/white thing, but there are some really sweet swatches that come from the Winged wheel. I am very picky about my PC, and never hold on to anything that isn't a Wings player. I don't even collect cards of past players like Hasek and Hull since they were not really with the team that long, and never really felt like part of the family. I'm not interested in anything from last year with Hossa on it either.
I even had a really nice Shanahan collection of patches, 2 color jerseys, and autos that I got rid of when he left Detroit. I just could not bring myself to keep them around. The nicest wing patch I ever had was on a 04-05 UD Ultimate Shanny card...and I sold it.
I think I'm safe with Lidstrom spending the rest of his career in Detroit, but if he ever leaves or gets traded I think I would have to quit collecting for ever.
Growing up watching Yzerman for the Red Wings and Dumars on the Pistons spoiled me as a sports fan. I have a strong appreciation for players that spend their entire career with one team. I feel sorry for most sports fans who never get to follow a "hometown hero" for their entire career. I keep my fingers crossed for Zetterberg and Datsyuk so I can continue to collect their cards after Lidstrom is gone.
