If Varlamov can come back and get a good amount of starts away from Jose Threeormore then perhaps he stands a chance! A lot of people forget he's still considered a rookie this year.

This sums up how I feel. Like dead on. Except I give the edge to duchene for doing it at a bit younger age and on a team expected to contend for Taylor Hall this year.
And people need to realize something about Niemi. It's really not hard for an NHL goalie to win games and get shutouts with a great team in front of him. I feel his success is more based on the team in front of him than his own game

Tyler Myers, Bergfors, Duchene then Niemi.......Myers is a runaway winner.......nobody can touch him when he skates and nobody else can skate when he touches them......great young dman.

I believe Niemi can't win the Calder, he's too old (26)

But he is a rookie. I believe that Niemi can win the Calder in my opinion.

I agree with the point that Niemi has a great team in front of him. Additionally, he is only getting action every four games or so. Right now I would have to say
1) Tyler Myers
2) Matt Duchene
3) John Tavaras
However, Myers will take a blow for playing D. I can honestly see JT taking it even though other rookies will end with far more solid seasons.

And this is why so few people watch hockey anymore. The NHL loves to protect, shelter, and reward it's big names. I think Tavares will win it just because he was #1 overall and supposed to be a superstar goal scorer
