Obama Campaigned Against Spending Freeze

President Obama is now for a spending freeze. :)

He campaigned so strongly against it!!!!

I'm sorry, but President Obama is breaking so many promises I can't even count. Again, he ran as Obama and now is John McCain on spending freezes, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gitmo and so many other issues!

Do not know if he is listening to the people or just trying to sound good? I still see the left are still blaming the previous administration.

Great to hear. I wasn't able to watch the video and I can't find exact domestic things he wants to freeze, but that's the first step to righting the ship as far as the budget goes.

To me it's a much different economic climate than it was even just back when they were campaigning in 2007 and 2008. I think it's a good thing that he can adapt and change his stance if things change or if he was just wrong about things before. I think it's a good quality that most politicians should have and be allowed to have in specific areas. I think it's a possible step in the right direction.

But if he hadn't spent $3.5 trillion in his first year, a hard freeze on spending might not be necessary. He is adapting because (maybe...probably not) he's finally realizing his initial approach was wrong and has made things worse instead of helped. It's nice that he's trying to adapt, but it would have been much nicer if he hadn't screwed the pooch this much to begin with.

I agree, but for mike to use his switch in a stance that goes in the right direction to get another "broken promise" to add to the list it a bit humorous. Don't get me wrong, Obama has done a lot of stuff to be called out on, but I like to see when someone can be open minded and change their direction when it can seemingly help. I have my doubts that it will help the budget a ton simply because the amount spent on so called stimulus and the war probably fair outweighs any freeze on increased budgets on certain domestic programs. However, freezing spending anywhere they can can't hurt.

Are you serious? I'm suppose to respect this? President Obama and congress spent trillions, tried to spend another $2 trillion on health care and then when his party loses an election in Massachusetts I'm suppose respect that he is now trying to be a conservative? He is acting in political desperation, which means this is just a fog he is putting up until the 2010 elections are done.

I'm also seeing that he will promise anything to get elected then change his promises to survive. Sorry if I don't by yet another promise he won't keep. If he does pass a long-term spending freeze and convinces his party that spending money that we don't have (i.e. balancing a budget and cutting taxes) is wrong then I'm change my tune. If he does that I'll go and register as a Democrat the next day. :)

you don't have to respect anything as it's just words right now, but I would think that someone that complains about spending would think it's a good prospect when Obama speaks about doing something about reeling it in, even if it's just for certain sectors. I just find it funny that instead of saying this could be a good thing if it happens you just go on about broken promises. I could be wrong but it seems to me you'd speak negatively if he said he'd spend more money domestically or if he speaks of a freeze.

This is all about Brown winning Mass and seeing the progressive movement support drop. Demeaning fat cat bankers and calling for spending freeze is nothing more then campaigning for a dictatorship. Part of the fundamentally changing America that he talks about.

I think that has to be a big part of it, I don't see how anyone could reasonably disagree. The spending has been ridiculously high for several months, warnings of a double-dip recession have been presented since August or earlier...what else would cause this action when nothing else has changed?

What I am saying is it's all talk and nothing will change. Our President is incompetent and can't do anything without a czar or cherry picked focus group giving him an ok. Obama has said time and time again that Reaganomics didn't work despite the fact it was the greatest 25 year expansion of wealth in the history of the world. He was elected by the gullible and they will be the only ones who fall for this political tactic
