Apparently Burke is adamant about not asking Kaberle to wave his NTC and while I usually think most things GMs say are worth much weight when Burke speaks he tells you straight up what is going on and I at least like that about Burke. That's why I knew Schenn or Kadri wouldn't be part of any deal. No way is Burke going to give up on Schenn who he's deemed untouchable or Kadri who is his prize 1st round pick. Kaberle is still under contact for 1 more year after this and he should stay with the Leafs.

It's pretty obvious that Burke is not done. For now you got Kaberle, Phaneuf, Komisarek, Beauchemin, Schenn for your core 5 in defence. He's probably going to gun to properly fill the 6th spot before fixing the forward corps. I have crunched the numbers, and it does look like Burke did a salary-for-salary trade with the Flames and obviously the Ducks. It's pretty even with the Ducks at 7mil, while Burke sent 7.1mil to Calgary and got back 7.25mil in guaranteed return. You can pretty much conclude that he's done his free-agent signing now rather than July 1st.

I think he should of kept White for the 6th spot, who has been rapidly developing and improving

Okay guys Gagner, Ryan, and Backstrom are RFAs so for the Leafs to make an offer sheet they have to have their #1 picks for the next year or two so making an offer sheet is out of the question.

burke won't ask kaberle to waive his NTC but that doesn't mean that kaberle won't go to burke and give him a list of teams.
kaberle knows burke wants to move him and i believe he'd rather make a run at a cup then play for a cellar dweller. i think he'll be traded this season but we'll see.

I'm almost positive Kaberle won't go to Burke and give him a list of teams. The reason is Kaberle has a family and they are settled down in T.O. and love living in T.O. That is the reason that Kaberle took only $4.25 million a year was to stay in T.O. The NTC was the cornerstone of being able to sign him for that price.
Also someone said that if the Leafs don't make the playoffs this year that Kaberle's NTC clause would be void in the offseason making him tradeable then. If he gets traded it would be at that time.

Kaberle would be silly not to give Burke a list...... At least right now he can have some control over where he goes. If he waits to the summer like Kubina did he might end up in a place he really doesn't like.

Everyone's talking about trading Kaberle...I don't get it. Sure, the return would be a 1st round pick and maybe more..but in my opinion it's not worth it.
He's been in Toronto for his entire NHL career. He likes it here. He puts up points. He doesn't slack off. He's always positive. A great quiet leader that this young team needs right now. Fans like him and will NEVER boo him, regardless of what ends up happening. To me, that kind of player is one that you don't trade away. I like the idea that an 8th round pick can become the cornerstone of a franchise for his entire career.

Well lets say Kaberle gives Burke a list of 10 teams he would waive his NTC for it doesn't mean Burke has to deal Kaberle at the deadline to any of those 10 teams. Burke could still wait until after the season at the draft to trade Kaberle to any of 30 teams if they miss the playoffs. Plus I believe Burke is insane saying his goal is for the Leafs to still make the playoffs this year but I do believe that is what he is trying for even if it is insane. Since that is his insane goal no way would he trade Kaberle because Kaberle is one player who can really help Toronto make a run at the insane goal of make the playoffs this year.
