Since these Kaberle trade talks are coming up, I will speak from the perspective of an Oilers fan.

Tomas Kaberle means to Toronto what Ryan Smyth meant to Edmonton. One of those players who truly want to stay with their team for their career, and play hard every night. For Edmonton, trading Ryan Smyth away was a big mistake. Yes, he has had his injury problems away from Edmonton, while the player we got to replace him(Dustin Penner) has essentially played 3 full seasons. But the 4 pieces we got in return for Smyth(Nilsson, O'Marra, Plante, and Penner indirectly) have nowhere near the impact Ryan Smyth had on the Oilers, and their combined amount of heart and soul for the game isn't even half as much as Smyth's. Since trading Smytty, the Oilers have been abysmal. They won 2 games the rest of the year after they traded him, and missed the playoffs for 4 straight years(this year included).

I don't know too much about Kaberle, but if he truly wants to be a career Leaf, let him be. It won't hurt the team to keep him. (That is, IF he wants to stay in Toronto forever.)

Oh, and Edmonton isn't trading Gagner lol()

I think he should of kept White for the 6th spot, who has been rapidly developing and improving

In my opinion, White is being overrated by Leaf fans way too much. Yes, he's having a solid season, but he's nowhere near Phaneuf's level. Forget that Phaneuf is 2 years younger than White, or forget that Phaneuf still has a lot of upside, but even if Phaneuf can regain his form the way he was about 2-3 yrs ago, that alone is a win for the Leafs. Even a so-called bad season last year, Phaneuf managed 45-plus points. White hasn't gone past 26 points in his career (obviously this season will be an exception). What you see now in White is his peak. You're not going to see more out of him. Doug Maclean said it best yesterday. Dion Phaneuf was heavily considered to be in Team Canada. Ian White wasn't even on Yzerman's radar. This despite Phaneuf having a bad season.

Everyone's talking about trading Kaberle...I don't get it. Sure, the return would be a 1st round pick and maybe more..but in my opinion it's not worth it.

He's been in Toronto for his entire NHL career. He likes it here. He puts up points. He doesn't slack off. He's always positive. A great quiet leader that this young team needs right now. Fans like him and will NEVER boo him, regardless of what ends up happening. To me, that kind of player is one that you don't trade away. I like the idea that an 8th round pick can become the cornerstone of a franchise for his entire career.

I completely agree and don't see the logic in trading Kaberle either. He is fully committed to the team and is an elite player. Sure we need some good forwards, but giving up Kaberle and rolling the dice just isn't worth it right now. Besides, usually when you try to build a foundation you go out and get pillar, not replace an existing one.

I wouldn't consider White overrated, but I applaud Burke for trading him. There's the old saying "buy low, sell high" and that's exactly what Burke did. While it was tough for me to see White go, I think it was a good decision to trade him if that's what it took to get the trade done.

lol. Man he was flying. I thought he really set the tone with a couple big hits and a fight early. Having him on the point for he powerplay also seemed to open up more room for phil Kessel. It seemed like he brought some stability to the blueline, he was getting the puck out and making some great passes. Also noticed that Luke Schenn started to get a little more physical after Phaneuf started to throw his weight around.
