Stamkos has Vinny and St. Louis to coach him through. Duchene has Stastny and Wolski and Sakic in the office. Who does Tavares have? No one.

Sakic does not work for the Av's or do anything in any official capacity with the team.

So saying Sakic could "help" or "coach" Duchene is much akin to saying Tavares is getting pointers from Gretzky.

BTW, I don't think Wolski is teaching Duchene much. If anything Duchene is teaching him!

Plus, the Av's are so young. Statsny is only 23 or 24 in his 4th season so not that much time in the NHL to "teach" Duchene like Lecavalier and St. Louis who have been in the league a decade plus helping out Stamkos.

That all said, I am just saying this:

Duchene or Myers for the Calder at this point, no one else.

Is Tavares going to be a solid player? Yes. Is he talented? Yes. Is he better than either of these two right now? No.

If the votes were counted tomorrow, Duchene would win. He's leading rookies in points & goals..... Myers is having a great rookie season, but not so great that he will win any hardware for it. (Rightly or Wrongly, the odds are stacked against Defenceman for trophies like this).

There's still a little better than 20 games to play though. Let's see how the season finishes before we anoint anyone the winner.

Oh, and as for the mentions of the NHL "Calder Qualifications".... I don't see the problem. You have to be 25 or under, and in your rookie year.

What's the problem? The trophy was not intended to be awarded to guys in their late 20s (or older?) who have been playing professional hockey elsewhere for nearly a decade..... and it's only for players in their rookie years. Your 'rookie year' means you've never had a season of at least 25 games.

stamkos went from 46 points last year to will have around 90 this year. tavares maybe on a similar pace if he can get a lil help next year. i don't think either one is a bust.

The avs have played just amazing and so much of the credit has to go to their young guys such as duchene.

People should try reading. I did not say it was just duchene. I said it was due to the young players. the main guy in that is duchene. the team struggled horribly to score last year and he has helped them tremendously this year with that.

He has meant more to his team than any other rookie and he also has the most points. for that reason, anyone else winning calder (barring a terrible cold streak or injury) would be absolutely pathetic and just show what a joke the NHL is.

I stand by this statement. Matt Duchene is clearly the best rookie this year. I'm not blowing off Myers but I don't feel its really even close between the two. duchene is just that good. If the top rookie doesn't win the award for top rookie, then yes there is something terribly wrong with the NHL.

Point taken. My mistake. However, one must point out that Tavares is in a perennial losing team.

Oh Agent Purple....You certainly stick to your convictions...lol

Nobody is saying Duchene isnt having a great year. He clearly is. He very well may win the Calder but I think its fairly biased on your part to deny that him and Myers are close right now. I have to ask though...Have you seen Myers play much? I mean more than a game or two. The kid is putting up forward numbers as a rookie defensmen. You cant discount the simple fact that a forward SHOULD score more than a devensive player. Duchene (and other rookie forwards) should have a wider point lead over Myers than they do right now....

Myers currently is the best d-man in buffalo. No question in my mind there. Is it more impressive to break into the league as a #1 defenseman or a 2nd line forward? Also there is a HUGE difference in time played. Duchene averages 17 min while Myers averages 23. Not as huge of a difference but Duchene is currently a -1 as a forward while Myers is +5 as a d-man.

So that wasnt an attack on you Agent Purple, and it ended up longer than I expected lol. But to say it isnt a race means youre discounting some serious factors. You handed Duchene the Calder before he ever put on an NHL jersey...

I see no problem with this statement. At all.

I'll give a serious reply when I'm not swamped with HW
