I completely disagree. In Canada that goal is being compared to significant Canadian goals like Henderson's in '72 and Lemieux's in '87. Winning a gold medal in hockey on home soil is absolutely a huge and while other players like Luongo and Iginla played well, Crosby will always be known for the golden goal.

While people in many other countries won't fully realize the impact, Crosby's goal was a huge moment in Canadian history as streets were filled with people not only in Vancouver, but in Montreal, Calgary, etc. Even the downtown core of Toronto was closed because so many people were out celebrating. Many Canadian baby-boomers are saying that there is more national pride this year than they can remember during Expo '67 and the 1972 Summit Series. As far as I'm concerned, Sidney Crosby deserves the attention he is getting for the goal.

ya but what about the player who assited the "golden goal" don't see him getting that much credit when he made the nice pass out to crosby

Honestly it was extremely fitting Crosby scored the GWG in OT to give Canada the Gold! The Golden Boy scores the Golden Goal! It is just fitting and his legend grows. The Phenom, Sid The Kid, The Next One, and The Golden Boy all fitting nicknames for Canada's gold medal winning goal scorer. Crosby plays with heart and passion. Every successful great person has their haters from politicians, to painters, to singers, to sports stars, etc. All I know is Crosby has way more super fans than bashers. I'm a fan. He received some criticism in the tournament for not producing enough yet he produces the biggest goal of them all with a super quick snap shot. All about the fast release. Plus he was shouting at Iggy for the puck and Iggy just is able to get it to him.

i was at the olympics and i got one of his gloves sucks cause the other one went like 300ft from me wounder how much it would go for lol

I feel 99.9999999999999% sure this is a flat out lie. If you had Crosby's glove, you would have done two things with it by now:

    1. Be an honorable, respectable man and give it back to him, ESPECIALLY when they are searching for it or
    2. Take advantage and sell something that doesn't belong to you.

While Iginla made a nice pass to Crosby, it was the goal that ultimately clinched the goal. For the most part, it's the people who scored the winning goals we remember, not the person who assisted. Can you remember who assisted on Paul Henderson's goal in 1972, Mike Eruzione's Miracle on Ice goal in 1980, or Brett Hull's controversial 1999 overtime Cup Winner? In the end it's the goal scorer we tend to focus on because they are the one's who scored to win the game.

Yeah, I do...and proabably a lot of Buffalo does...Lehtinen...also had the 1st Dallas goal in that game...remember it like yesterday...Modano I think had the secondary assist on that...

    But I get your point.

I remember that Gretzky had his die-hard critics...who didn't like him and constantly complained about his "whimpy-ness" and that he couldn't handle being checked, didn't get involved in fights, had too many other players protecting him, complained over nothing and got too much credit instead of credit going to others he played with, etc. etc. etc. For example, Gretzky had a habit of hanging around the net and scoring from that position...so people would pounce on that and say he didn't deserve his goal stats when he'd sit there and have the puck fed to him...after all, how hard is it to score goals when you're often at the corner of the net???

So when I hear from the Crosby "nay-sayers" I think back to what people said about Gretzky...both pro and con. As with any sports figure, Crosby's reputation will only be established one way or the other, after the passage of time and of course he's still a young player.

I wonder how many Gretzky "nay-sayers" now look back with embarrassment about their previous comments? Or if you ask them, perhaps they'd be of the same view and want to tell you all about how ridiculous it was for Gretzky to play such a prominent and undeserved role at the recent winter Olympics in Vancouver...

The fact is that Crosby DID score the game winning gold medal game goal...and that gold medal DID propel Canada to a record-breaking number of Olympic gold medals. Sure someone else might have eventually scored the goal against a hot goalie who wasn't letting goals in (or not, with momentum with the US team after their tying goal so it seemed more likely that the US would win)...and sure Crosby admitted he didn't even see the goal go in so perhaps you can argue that it was a mere fluke. But again, he did shoot a hard shot that found the perfect corner for that particular moment...and it ended a sudden-death overtime game which clinched the gold medal. It is what it is, regardless of your point of view. I don't equate that goal with the 1972 series Paul Henderson goal, because of what was happening with hockey back in 1972 with the Soviet "unbeatable team" but I expect Crosby's goal will retain some historical significance and he deserves credit for it...along with the entire team for a hard fought effort.

Whoever has his equipment should just give it back.

I see no point in keeping it, if all you are going to do is look at it and hide it from other people.
Obviously the person wouldnt be able to sell it, or show it off.

Oh. And I dont get why a quarter of hockey fans are always critisizing him. He has been critisized ever since he was a child, with everyone calling him names and booing him. Give him a break. He is a humbled, kind and thoughtful preson who deserves nothing of that. He is human like we are.
