Sports Card Insurance?
Hi guys,
Was wandering if anyone could share what they do about insuring their sports cards...
Heres my deal...
I live in a townhouse. Renters insurance seems too high too me. Going to run me around 300-350 a year. Don't think I wanna do that.
I could buy a safe (Sentry Fire safe) for around $200, but do robbers generally try to carry out 90 pounds safes?
Safe deposit box- I've read some horror stories about whether your safe deposit box is really safe. So I don't want to go there.
I need some help...any thoughts?

Renters insurance has limit and it may not be enough to cover your whole collect. Premium will go up more with higher limit. You may want a find a insurnace just for your sport collection. They can insure your whole collection or individual card. And they do not cover wear/tear. And they do not go by market value unless your insurance says how much exactly your collection worths up front.
90lbs is nothing if people really want to steal your stuff. And buying a safe is not a insurance. It does not indemnify your loss. And also it does not protect damage from flooding, smoke, or other loss exposures.

Yes, they are a sponsor of SCF:

They seem to have pretty good prices...I was surprised at how inexpensive the prices are!

Yea, I clicked the link on here. They do seem fairly cheap. I believe I may give them a try.

I was also thinking around purchasing a Sentry Fire safe but I have yet to do it (A Fire+Water safe one of course). I think that would be a much easier and cheaper idea than purchasing card insurance.

I don't know about that...a collection worth $50k, with full burglary and theft protection only runs about $300 per year, depending on the state you live in.

I dont think burglars would go all out trying to find some basketball cards if they are somewhat well hidden. It also depends what the crime rate in your area is. If your neighborhood rarely gets robberies, then just getting a fire and flood proof safe may be the better option.

I'm not sure if every thief would steal basketball cards. It will be stupid for them to steal rare card and sell in the market later. But I'm sure every thief would steal or try to break the safe.

If you live in a house with a concrete floor you could always bolt the safe down also... I work at a bank and i can assure you, you can find a bank that is safe to put stuff in. the one that i work at has no access to the box unless you are there with your key and we are not allowed to have the box in our possession.
