Doughty may never have a chance again like this. I think he is a helluva player, but he could come down to Earth just as much as he has done so well. Doughty has the potential to win 5 Norris though.

I've seen maybe 10 games of him this year, and I've already conceded he's a good player. But you say Green is a forward, and the only thing in your description here that stands out for defense is hip checks.
I agree he will get better too, but I dont see how he's a Norris winner yet.

Game3 , Sedin twins, 2 on 1. Doughty breaks up the play with a terrific poke check.

That is just a microcosm of his defensive instincts.

Also, why did Yzerman and company take Doughty at 20 over Green, 24, for the Olympic squad?

Surely a vet would be better suited than sophomore? Not about age or tenure, it is about SKILL.

You put Doughty in Washington's system with all their talent..........oh my, LOL, he'd have 95 points this year and we wouldn't have this discussion.

Go with the latter. If he is doing this at 20 years old at the toughest position to play at that age in the NHL the future can only get better as he matures and really learns the game. Scary huh?

I wasn't talking about anyone other than Doughty and Green for the sake of this discussion.

I think my post summarized things perfectly for the Norris discussion.

Keith will win the Norris this year, Doughty will then become a regular finalist and/or winner for the next decade or so and Doughty is superior to Green.

There are other D-man. Lidstrom can still contend for a couple years. Keith, Green, Bogosian, Hedman, Chara, Schenn, Kronwall, Johnson times 2, and a lot more. Doughty has one good season. Who knows if he will be a dominate force. I said he could come down the Earth or he could win 5 Norris. One year doesn't tell me anything. Ask me in 2 years this question.

Tell me why was Doughty taken over Green for the Olympic team if Green is THAT good?

Because he's not THAT good.

Being on the Canadian Olympic team means you are the elite of the elite hockey players in the world, we all know puck is life and death up there.

And Doughty didn't just make the squad, he was a key contributor.

BTW, anyone who plays with AO and the rest of that ridiculous lineup is gonna have some inflated stats, sorry dude, that's a fact so numbers aren't the be all and end all.

Jack Johnson will never EVER contend for a calder. I love the kid more than most since I am a U of Michigan and a Kings fan and he was on both but he won't get to that level. And I think Liddy won his last norris for his career. throw out Schenn, Kronwall, and Jack Johnson and thats a list of people who can win it over the next 5 years

I have two words for all of you: Jim Carey. Not saying the same thing will happen to Doughty, but come on he's had one great year. Who knows where he'll be in five years. Yes he has the potential to be the best D-man in the game, but he's not there yet.
