    New traders

Just because I am new here, doesn't mean I am stupid. To have the nerve to offer me 3200 base cards for 200 bucks. 50 red wing base cards for 35 bucks. A Crosby Captain Callings insert for $15. I get it that I am new, but come on!

So my question is, did anyone else have this issue when they were new on any board? I feel like people are trying to take advantage of me being new here.

Congrats on the Habs with the BIGG win!

Yes. Now that I remember it, one of the people we discussed last night ripped me in one of my new deals knowing I had no access to prices and I had to trust him to give me a fair deal and he obviously didn't.

Some people are...well...after some issues lately....I'll use the word shifty. They think they can get away with things because someones feedback is low.

I could be wrong but I dont think they are just doing it because you are new. That probably is a bit of it but far too often these days everyone you try and trade with has to "win" the deal. People look at it like a competition where there is a winner and a loser when they should be trying to help the other person while helping themselves at the same time.

I have made several friends on these and other sites that look out for cards for me and i do the same for them. If i had tried to win the original deal with these people i may have got an extra bit of money but would have lost the friendships and connections that i have made.

I think what they did was too far. And another one happened today. Funny how when I respond back saying no, and that we know it isn't worth that much, they reply with, oh I meant this, or that.

I have put them on my ignore list, it just baffles me. Even if one guy says yes, that is wrong to screw someone like that. Some guy wanted to sell me cards at a BIG lost. 3 cards that sell for $350 total, and he wanted $150 cause he needed the Paypal. I told him no, and I listed it on my eBay account for him. Just cause I felt bad. I don't see why people need to screw people.

I have been collecting on and off since 1968 started with baseball and hockey.
The hobby has evolved greatly since the 90's.
I have met and dealt with many great people in this hobby as well as met my share of "shifty" people. I am half elephant and half Irish so i never forgive and never forget.
Since the internet expanded the hobby to the masses there are so many faceless people you will never meet. As with any cross section of humanity there will be good and bad so do not let the bad spoil it for the many as is frequently the case.
I to have found myself wanting to throw in the towel after dealing with some of the riff raff that lurks behind keyboards but in the end i do not let them get to me for long.
One of the things i find most enjoyable is a random act of kindness such as sending a nice card to someone for free with no strings or helping someone track down their whale as i have done before.
So really it is not so much as you are new to the site although some "shifty" people may have this perception as an easy target. It is more the fact they are there hiding behind a keyboard instead of face to face where they would surely not be so bold with their antics.

I won't ever throw in the towel, this hobby is too fun. And I won't let some lame people try to ruin it. I just hope to see more kindness than "stealing". No one would have the guts to try this in person.

dude never say never. there's been sooooo much stuff that has gone on to me on this site and a few others that really are the motivation for me selling all my cards and getting out of the hobby. I'm not ruling out the possibility of a comeback but I highly doubt it.
