    Returning Newb needs Help Please

Hi everyone...I collected hockey cards when I was younger and am now just getting back into. Problem is as I am sure you all know it isnt the same game it used to be. I used to buy entire sets of UD in 91 for like $50-$75 but I know that this can be the price of some packs.

I am wondering what are some good series to buy to get back into the game?
I have been looking at getting a hobby box of 09/10 UD Game Used.

    See Karma-129's Items on eBay

I'd go with a box of Upper Deck Series 1 or 2 as a starting point. Good mid-level product, nice rookie hits, some game used, maybe an autograph.

Not a bad place to get your feet wet as far as I'm concerned.

I would agree with starting with Series 1/2. If you're like me (I just got back into things last year), you'll quickly regain your passion and elevate your interest in more high-level sets if the prices are palletable for you. This site is a great place to look for cards you need to finish sets or for personal collections as well. It's rather addicting!

Welcome back! You can go with Series 1 or 2 now, or I'd wait until SPA comes out (who knows when that is....) because in a box your getting a good chunk of the base set and a few rookie autos and a chance at some other nice hits. Ultimate I wouldn't really recommend for right away, as your only getting about 4 cards, but don't get me wrong, Ultimate is a good product too. If Ice is released and is anything like last year, I'd personally avoid it. I would also avoid SPGU but thats your call. You do get a handful of traders with SPGU which are pretty helpful starting out.

Or you could go the ITG route. I'd look at 09/10 Heroes & Prospects or if you can get over the all-goalie thing, Between the Pipes has some amazing looking stuff coming out of it. Prices are very fair for this stuff and I find the quality and quantity of hits per box is a lot higher than some of Upper Deck's latest.

thanks Comanchekeen...i think what ill do is get a box of series 2 and its either gonna be a box of heroes and prospects or a box of the SPGU for the traders.

I'm with bluecker here, I just got back into collecting about 9 months ago and it is addicting. It's a lot of fun to bust boxes, trade, and meet new people here or at your LCS. As for boxes, I don't know if I'd go with series 1/2 like everyone says as you can buy even a Tavares Young Guns now for under the cost of a box. I'd wait for SP Authentic, SPx is pretty good this year too, anywhere from 4-6 hits a box(not including regular rookie cards and spxcitement cards) including a rookie jersey/auto and a lot of other nice stuff. ITG's Heroes & Prospects is nice as well, especially for the falling price point, and Between The Pipes is absolutely loaded this year, nice pad cards, glove cards, and tons of other stuff.
