I honestly wouldnt argue whos 1 and whos 2...its the fact the Twins, Yanks and Tigers have playoff aspirations, play the best people or we might as well let the NL win..we might as well let Don Kelly start at first

Agreed, most fans don't realize it's for home field advantage in the world series

Most people don't care. They vote for their team. With the Yankees having lots of fans, players like Jeter and Tex who annually get in will get in even without the numbers simply because of the many fans. For those hatin on the Yanks for this, look at Ripken in the 2001 AS game. Exactly.

Jeter gets in annually without putting up numbers?? He has hit about .333 the last 4 years

I'm not hating on the Yanks (even though I despise them), I'm just saying it's pretty weak and that I wouldn't feel too "prideful" if Mauer was being voted in with those kind of numbers.

Hold up. I'm not saying he's not putting up numbers. I'm sayin he has gotten in before (this year potentially) with numbers not as good as others At the AS BREAK. I'm a Yankes fan btw.. lol.

The popularity aspect always gets a couple of players in. Sure some players are given to get in not just for being popular but also being skilled (Pujols for example).

But take two seasons ago when Kosuke Fukudome made it into the all-star game...that was all because of the hype surrounding him - not skill. His numbers were average at best.

Yea it is total BS. Miguel Cabrera is my favorite player and he is a monster. I don't believe he didn't make it last year.

It's a popularity contest. People vote for who they want to see. This ain't the best players game. It's been like this for as far as I can remember.

    Cool

It's a popularity contest is all it is,plus the teams that fill their stadiums can stuff the ballot box.

Exactly. Any vote where the public casts a ballot is a popularity contest. Team sites/stadiums always push their fans to vote for the hometown players without regard to the merits of players from other teams. It also makes me laugh when some fans are surprised to find out the All-Star voting process is not fair and that the fans are not getting it right. This only happens like, every year. And then don't even get us started on players who were outright snubbed from past All-Star teams...

There's also about a month left for voting. I'm sure the voting results will change.
