You can have Dean Lombardi. He's really only good at drafting. I'll take over as GM for the Kings. Firs move: Trade Quick!

The race to the bottom is on, is it?
How about these doozies:
1980 - Habs pick Doug Wickenheiser 1st overall - #2 was Denis Savard.
1995 - Habs pick Terry Ryan 8th overall - he played 8 games in the NHL and logged zero points. 3 spots later? Jarome Iginla.
1996 - Habs pick Matt Higgins 18th overall - he scored 1 goal in 57 games. Six spots later? Daniel Briere.
1997 - Habs pick Jason Ward 11th overall - the very next pick was Marian Hossa. Brenden Morrow was taken later in the round.
1998 - Habs pick Eric Chouinard 16th overall - he played 13 games with the Habs and scored 1 goal - Simon Gagne was taken 22nd overall...Scott Gomez went 27th.
1999 - not a single player the Habs drafted this year played a single game in the NHL.
Game. Set. Match. Point.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

This whole "what we could have had a few spots later" thing is stupid you guys. Really. By that measure, every team in the NHL could have and should have drafted Luc Robitaille instead of him going to us in the 7th round. There is zero way you can tell how a kid will turn out in the NHL. Heck, Taylor Hall could be terrible for all we know. Don't play the "we could have had..." game. It only depresses you.

On the contrary to CNShockey's point I acctually love this I think is shows how raw these kids are and it is funny to see how an 18 year old can either make or break a franchise. Therefore keep the bad draft stories coming I find them interesting LOL

Ya, besides the Canucks are the all time losers when it comes to missed or blown draft picks.

That's the agenda here - it's not an intellectual exercise, just a little glimpse into building a dream team with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

yeah but you're already probably bummed that the habs got booted. Why add to that by showing how terrible your organization is at drafting
And if you want a bruising dman, you can take Teubert. That deal was easily the dumbest DL made.

I'm pretty sure that Toronto is just a farm team for Boston at this point.

Hey, who did we get in return for those No Pick 1st rounders? And for the team that got the 1st rnd pick, who did they draft?

I'm beyond proud of what my boys accomplished this post-season. That CBC buffoon PJ Stock had picked "Caps in 3" and most gave them little better chance than that. And I've stated many times in many venues that Timmins is utterly incompetent when it comes to drafting - how many Minnesota Mr. Hockey winners does one organization need?
