UD The Cup 09/10 NO ROOKIES!??
Hey Guys and Gals,
I'm just curious, Beckett set up guidlines a little while ago that classified what a Hockey RC was. They had a very specific cut off date for Hockey RC's from a particular year. UD has posted that THE CUP will be coming out in late July. Does that not mean that the product will go out live AFTER the Rookie cut off date? If so, does that mean that 100% of The Cup cards will be NON-ROOKIE? Thoughts?

Beckett may not classify them as a rookie but I'm sure collectors will think of them as rookies and still pay the big bucks. Personally, I couldn't give [edit] what an over-priced and out of reality magazine wants to classify something as

Like few years ago the cards like Kovalchuk Pacific Titanium Hobby RC #/17 wasn't a rookie card according to Beckett due to the scarce print run!!!! What a joke it was at that time.

Beckett may be able to invent prices and sales figures but they can't really call the shots on what defines a rookie card. That's what we, the collectors, are for. It's bad enough they make up book values, I don't think we need their "guidelines" as to what a genuine rookie card is.

That's what I thought. People will still view them as RC's. And yes, Roy.The.Greatest, please try to find me ONE collector that doesn't view that card as a Kovolchuk RC.

Beckett does say what rc are and people do listen just like any parallel of any rc just like the hg/10 from ud that are not considered true rc but the only diff is a number on the card and Roy the greatest was agreeing with you if you dident get the sarcasim

Ummm... I did agree with Roy the Greatest, hence my "Yes"
As far as parallels, etc., go. I hear that. Hockey IS the only sport that doesn't put a premium on those cards, but this is something very different. Do you think when beckett says, "Due to missing the arbitrary cut off date we instilled a few years ago, 2009/10 The Cup has no RC's" people will accept that? I don't know. It would be nice if that DID happen, but I don't know. At $500/tin, I think people will raise a stink. No body wants to hear that they just lost $3,000 on a case because a tiny magazine that is completely irrelevant says so. But I could be wrong.
It's going to be very interesting come August 2010.

I hope for UD that August will be at latest the month of release for The Cup. Still no UD Ultimate Collection yet released, we are already beginning June, it is quite sad for us to have products so late in the hockey season. Also cards shows are running on a slow pattern in June/July/August.

Isn't Beckett supposed to FOLLOW the market and not guide it?
If collectors call them RC, why would Beckett declare them otherwise?

wasn't the rookie cut off date for when the players have played an official NHL game by? also, The Cup has always seemed to come out beginning of August. that hasn't changed any of the RC designations from previous years yet.
