Tim Duncan = Worthless?
For years, I've been meaning to pick up a Tim Duncan Topps Chrome RC(still haven't gotten around to it).I always thought the $30 book value was a great bargain considering how great of a player he is.Actually,I always thought a lot of his RC's were undervalued. He's probably the best PF to ever play the game(I don't even like him personally but I'll give credit where it's due)
To my surprise, Beckett has dropped the value on all Tim Duncan RC's for the 2nd month in a row. Many of his RC's are now worth as much as the wrapper they came in
This sums it all up...
06/07 Topps Rajon Rondo RC = $8
97/98 Topps Tim Duncan RC = $1
I understand Duncan is in the twilight of his career...but a dollar?!He has a few RC's that are just $1, and many that book $3 or less.John Salmons RC's are now trumping Duncan's.
They can't claim the market has slowed on Duncan. He is still one of the most collected players in the league. If productivity is the reason for the drop, why aren't Shaq RC's down to $2?

Duncan is very undervalued in hobby. However, his auto is still high since he doesn't sign that many stuff since 2003 or so.

Yeah, and Shaq's RCs were produced in the same quantity as Duncan's were, if not more (early '90s, anyone?).
Anyway, I'm like the others and can't believe Duncan's prices have dropped. I thought they were right about where they should be about a year ago. I always like picking him up as trade bait because he's a proven star many people collect...

I don't think it has anything about production of those cards. Main reason is that, you don't see new collector start Duncan as PC. Most of his followers already got all those RCs, and this leave a lot of his cards out there without ppl asking/buying/trading. However, there are still handful of people who are Lakers fan, and they will keep O'neal RCs.

As a Suns fan Im glad Duncan is worthless and feel he deserves his low value. Best PF in history, no way. Luckiest, perhaps. Its amazing what a HOF coach and excellent supporting cast can do for somebody.
As you may have realized most people on here never follow book value, and I can see why.... BUT Beckett hit the nail on the head with this one.
I have been trying to dump all these base Tim Duncan RCs I've had for years and nobody wants them.
The Spurs have few fans, and the ones who collect Duncan have surely by this time purchased his easily found base RCs.
His values are going down because he is not making any new fans, and more likely losing fans because of his poor play over the past few years.
Spurs fans are selling their Duncan and Parker cards and buying George Hill and D Blair RC AUTOs, at least they should be doing that if they knew what was best!
