Seguin To Boston Means????
Well a fear of mine is about to come true. I'm very happy with the fact that we got Tyler Seguin. The Dude is money and will be a franchise player in the NHL. The problem, he's coming to a "Center Rich" team.
Bob Mackenzie even confirmed it last night... With Boston drafting Tyler Seguin, it will spell the end of Marc Savard as a Bruin. He said they're looking to move forward with Bergeron\Krejci\Seguin as their top three centers. I like it, but Savvy is... Savvy. He touched the hearts of all Boston fans as he helped us finally forget about Joe Thornton.
I know it has to happen, but my question to you is, where will Marc Savard go? (Hold on Leafs Fans)... Do you think Peter C will actually trade Savard to a division rival? I think not. There was a rumor in the draft that Edmonton offered Ales Hemsky and Andrew Cogliano for Tyler Seguin. I wonder if "Center Stricken" Edmonton will make a move to get Savard?

too bad the Kings are loaded up the middle - i wouldn't mind seeing Savard in L.A.
i know that whoever gets Savard their top line wingers will be happy and looking at cashing in on their next contract.
Phoenix could use a #1 center but i don't think they would be able to take on any extra money.

Ales Hemsky and Andrew Cogliano for Tyler Seguin is a pretty low ball offer, no way any team would move a great player for 2 players like that. I have to say Boston are stuck with Savard and Thomas, both with huge contracts and are now not useful... almost $10M/year for Boston in the trash.

In the Trash? Like its the worst thing in the world that we start the season with Marc Savard as our 1st line center. Tim Thomas is only a Victim of Circumstance and will be given a new home. There's already talks with San Jose and Tampa Bay according to the Boston Globe. Marc Savard is still a point a game player, and is playoff proven. So Ho Hum, we have to keep him :-)

they can always move Bergeron to the wing. he's played wing in the past.
savard's contract isn't bad at all. $4M cap hit is great for a 1st line center. i wish the Kings had an opening on the 2nd line as I'd love to have Savard on the Kings.

Yes, $10M/year in the trash. With Rask, Thomas will be on the bench for 60 games per season. With Bergeron, Krejci and Seguin, Savard is now the 4th center of Boston. I am sure Boston would use $10M/year on other players than Thomas and Savard. Other teams now see the situation, and with so the huge contracts they have, Boston will need to almost give each of the 2 players for free, only to get this money back to invest on other players. Of couse, Bergeron and Savard could be fragile in future due to medical issues, so maybe to keep Savard only as a backup but he won't be happy to not play as often as he was supposed to play.

no chance Savard plays #4 center. none. no reason Seguin or Bergeron couldn't move to the wing.
it would be a bit of a waste of $5M for Thomas to back up Rask, but you are way off on the center situation.

Again I don't understand your Logic. You're acting like Marc Savard is too old and his NHL career is finished. He is not the 4th center on this team. He's the 1st. Again, with the Youth Movement in the NHL, he becomes Expendable. Savard is an amazing player and just because he was hit dirty and was out for a while, doesn't make him fragile. If the Bruins had've found a way to close out Phili, Savard would've been a monster in the conference finals.
As it goes for Thomas, He'll have a home somewhere, but he doesn't want to leave Boston. There are teams out there who would take him in an instant.
You see, you have to look at the bigger picture here. Boston has many many prospects in their system that are soon to be NHL ready... Zach Hamil, Joe Colbourne, Brad Marchand, J. Caron, and now Tyler Seguin, Boston will be building from within. Which is the reason they signed Recchi, and traded for Horton.
If Savard stays with Boston, he'll play 70-75 games, rack up 75 points and will be on first line. If they do trade him, they'll get a draft pick or a prospect back, which helps us for the future as well.
So my point in all of this, Savard is a "Right Now" Player, and if Boston feels they have a Legitimate chance at contending for the Cup next year, Savard will just help their chances.
Gretzky - Peter C also said when they were interviewing Seguin after he was drafted, that they talked about him playing the wing as well.

yeah, Seguin or Bergeron could play on the wing. if i'm boston i hang on to Savard and see if what I could get for Thomas.

Boston just trade Sobotka as well so that frees up some money and another roster spot.
