Upon further examination, it seems that there are a lot of bad contracts being given to defensemen. I still believe Orpik is overpaid (one-dimensional, offensively-challenged, not much of a shot-blocker), but perhaps not to the extent I had originally thought. There are betting D-men than him making a lot less -- but that's certainly true for a lot of other blue-liners.

Wow if that deal comes through, the Devils are going to be in some kinda cap trouble. Prior to the signing they had less than 5 million dollars of space available. Obviously an $8.5M per year deal is going to have an impact on that.
What does Lou have up his sleeve?

Stupid move... the devils are not the type of team that can have a player like Kovy on it and that showed in the playoffs. Sadly. Locking Parise up long term would have been a much better move but hey that's my opinion.
