Everything from ITG Superlative or The Cup or Ultimate Collection is 'high-end'.

I fully disagree because we see many "garbage cards" inserted in ITG Superlative, The Cup and Ultimate Collection. A High-end card cannot be a garbage card in my mind. "High-end" is a term for the best cards, i.e. valuable cards due to scarcity and demand (so indirectly related to value).

In my book we could say a "high-end" card is a card with a print run of 10 or less (so rarity is there), and with a value of $500 or more (so in demand/valuable). That's a high-end card.

best definition i've heard yet. while the number for value is debatable, i think a high end card should be something that is limited and rare and worth a fairly large amount that makes it harder to obtain.

I think for the sake of the forums, $100 value is a good way of drawing a line. As mentioned it helps from having to sift from the usual cards that we see in the regular trading section, yet $100 is still a way to keep the high-end section active. Sure, some may consider high-end to start at $500 and others may think is $250 or $1,000 but the line had to be drawn. The more it is increased, the less activity it would have. $100 is a good way of keeping many involved including the younger crowd like a 14 year old who pulls a Malkin YG from a $5 pack of cards but wants to trade it for an Ovechkin YG.

Personally, I consider $100 to be high-end myself. While I do work, I still have a house, bills, etc. before cards. I don't have a big budget and when I do pull something "booked" at $100 value, I consider it to be a great pull since I've only pulled a few.

In terms of value, there are TONS of $100 cards. I don't think the $100 level is enough high to set the level of "high-end cards", too many cards selling at least $100. At $500 we begin to speak, but a $100 card is pretty common in 2009-10.

Well let's say the high-end card forum would be for $500 or more.. there would be barley any post because not many people have cards worth that high. And frankly, not many cards are worth that much.

In more specific terms, I tend to classify cards (that aren't RCs, RCs already have a "rookie" designation!) in the following categories:

    $0.01-$99.99: low-end (any production run)
    $100.00-499.99: mid-end (any production run)
$500.00 and more: mid-end if print run higher than #/10.
$500.00 and more: high-end if print run #/10 or less.

For the high-end category, it really needs to be limited in production, so #/10 or less in my book. This way, a Brad Winchester NHL Shields Auto 1/1 at $300 is not a high-end card (could be in future if Winchester turns as a star player), a Gretzky Jersey Auto #/25 at $500 is also not high-end due to high print run. Only "la creme" of cards are in the high-end category. But I agree we could have different opinions.

Who cares about a exact definition. According to RTG, Crosby the cup RC is not a high end card. All the cup gold rookie are not high end unless their jersey number is under 11.

There is no definition of this word because it is a qualification we give and as you see, no one have the same definition on how to apply it.

Basically, all we can be sure is that there will always be someone to tell us our card is not high end

I think that High end means the more profit the card company can make per box the higher end it is.

Why do some people want to find another qualificative to a rookie card?
A rookie card is... a rookie card !

Is a Gretzky O-Pee-Chee RC a high-end card? No, it is a rookie card!

Although subjective to each and every person, in my view, a Crosby YG is not a high-end card. Yes, it has great resale value (today) but there are likely a million of them out there. The counter argument is that a Gretzky OPC RC likely has as many out there... LOL But I do consider a nrmt Gretzky as a high-end card.

I like the $500 reference to an extent.

But at the end of the day, if it filters out the Toews or Kane YG, it works.... So, perhaps it's not working.

Wow, now you've lost me and I haven't even had a drink tonight
So are you suggesting that because one card already has a title as one type of card, they cannot fall in other categories? Therefore, patch is a patch even if it's low #'d, it can't be a high-end because it's already a patch/memorabilia card? The same goes for serial numbers lol.

It's like taking a Lamborghini and since it is already an expensive car, we can't call it a sports car. Which in fact, a Lamborghini is an expensive sports car. Just like a Sidney Crosby high-end rookie.
