Personally I feel lucky here in Buffalo. I've got both of the Dave and Adam's Card World locations within 20-30 minutes of where I live as well as a few other places. Dave and Adam's is where I like to go to buy boxes from time to time because their prices are relatively cheap with some GREAT deal on a few things and they will usually match their online prices which is nice too. Carl (Orion on here) works there and the staff in general is awesome. Carl will usually cut me a little deal which is awesome too (once got a couple 08-09 and 09-10 UD1 blasters for like $6 each!).

Bases Loaded is probably the one I go to most frequently as it's less than 5 minutes away for me and Derrick. The owner Jeff and his dad are good guys who really take care of their regulars. He'll let me and Derrick go "on the board" to get packs or sweet singles which is his form of payment plans. He doesn't charge tax which rocks and if you're looking for singles, this is the place to go. Always has a big 3 for $10 box where you can find some awesome gems every now and then. I don't like buying wax there though, his prices on wax are a little high for my liking.

The Card Store is about 10 minutes or so away from me and usually has box/pack prices that can't be beat. The guy in there is a little odd sometimes but he's still a nice guy and doesn't look to rip you off at all. He's in this business not as a business but more because he loves cards which is really cool. HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone looking to bust virtually anything from the past 5ish years in almost any sport. He even has H&P update sets for like $24 which landed me a Steve Mason GU. My box of UD1 there landed me a Schenn YG and an Alfie Patch /15 and I even got a Stamkos Trilogy RC out of 1 pack there...love that place!

I run into issues related to this. We have 2 card shops here in Syracuse...one in the main City Mall that everyone goes to, that they are trying to build up into this ridiculous DestinyUSA mall, but currently is just a shell of a place, looking like a prison. The other is a small private owner in North Syracuse that has been around forever. The same packs of Ultimate are $88 at private owner and $150!!! for mall guy, however you can get 20% off for frequent buyers, so $120. Big difference...the mark up at the mall is crazy. Usually, the only time I buy there is when I get gift certs. Otherwise, I get my boxes from the other guy for like 5% markup so he makes a bit. Major difference - he probably owns his shop outright by this time, and the mall guy is paying a ridiculously high lease each month.
Honestly, I don't know why anyone would buy from the mall...their hockey selection sucks too...

Isn't that the Carousel Mall? If so I know the place you're talking about and yeah I agree, the hockey selection blows, the prices are ridiculous for the most part, and that empty shell does kinda look like a prison lol I've been there a few times.

I've always wished I had a real "great" card store to go to. Where I live in Ohio, there aren't a whole lot of options. There are three stores that I go to:

#1) Grand Slam Sports Cards & Collectables (Mansfield, OH): the owner is a really nice guy, but doesn't really know much about cards. He's mostly into NASCAR stuff and just does cards on the side. The only singles he has are a friend of his, all of which have prices that match HI book value. Prices on packs and boxes are pretty high, but he doesn't charge tax and usually knocks $1 or $2 off each pack. However, not a great selection of packs or boxes. Great guy, and the only shop that's convienant for me, so I go there quite often.

Medina Sports Cards & Collectables (Medina, OH): Owner is nice, helpful, and pretty knowledgable about cards. Has a great selection of boxes, with somewhat high prices, though not totally unreasonable. A very limited selection of singles with high prices ($150 for a Ben Roethlisberger Auto/Patch? $30 for a Sebastian Telfair rookie auto?). Relatively limited pack selection (very little hockey, some basketball, some football, lots of baseball). He mainly caters to the Gaming Crowd (i.e. Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.) and has tournaments on weekends, so his shop gets rather crowded. This is where I normally buy my boxes from.

Line Drive Sports Cards (Tiffin, OH): Only been here a few times, but the owner and his wife are both very nice. Large selection of singles, though prices are just a bit high. Tons of boxes of base/rookie cards to go through, which is nice. Limited selection of boxes, but decent prices (for off-line) and a decent selection of packs. Don't frequent a whole lot, but its a pretty solid store.

To my knowledge though, none of these stores ever do promotions such as packwars or tradenights, have sales, etc. They are decent places to buy cards and whatnot, but I'm still searching for the shop I really like...

I'd be interested to know what the NFLD folks think of Maverick Cards here in St. John's. Personally, I find the guy completely disinterested in his customers, and the prices absolutely nutso. It's a shame, because 401 Cards in Toronto, my old place, used to encourage in-store breaks and would sell tax-free if you paid in cash. Good guys to deal with. Not so much here on the island.

401 Games in Toronto is a great shop and, you're right, the guys are good to deal with.

I tend to just go to the Toronto Card Show with the odd visit into a shop these days since, obviously, I go to the show every month. The good thing about that is I'm able to support virtually all the shops and dealers that I care to support under one roof. Queensway Sportscards is one of the best shops in Toronto and the GTA. But they are a trek for me. So I'm able to buy from them as they setup at the show.

There are other shop dealers at the show and not just from Toronto, but also The Ice Box Cards & Collectibles from Barrie makes the drive down to setup at the show.

Mike who used to run All Star Collectors in Orangeville sets up at the show every month. Well, I've not once been able to make the drive to Orangeville despite my good intentions so it's great that all these dealers congregate once a month under one roof at the show.

    Hey Ed,

I'm living in St. John's right now and got back into cards a couple of years ago. Andrew down to Maverick's has the best selection but you are right in that prices are very high. I spend a fair amount of cash down there as he is the first in town to get the new releases but rarely get a deal. Netherworld usually has the best prices anywhere in town but sometimes selection is not the best. And of course there's the beloved Sunday night flea market. I buy most of my stuff off Carter...he's been there for years and he is good to his loyal customers. there's another place in Mount Pearl but I've never been out there. No place in St. John's is great for singles and rarely are there any promotions. All in all we are still pretty lucky to have the selection we have!

Right at the corner of Orchard Lake and 14. It's next to a potbelly.

It's gotta be a brand new shop? My family owns an optical store, Direct Optical, right down the street at Orchard Lake and 13 mile. I can beat any price you pay for optical, so go check it out.

I agree haha. I live in Corner Brook NFLD and I only get to go out to St.Johns every once and a while. Here in Corner brook I dont have that one place that I can go buy wax and singles at the same place, HAHA. I have to go to different stores to get a box and singles.

I have been to Netherworld before, they have good prices on single packs but I have never seen them selling singles? And yes that Sunday night flea market is great. There is sooo many great deals to be had there.
