Thanks for the input guys. Im a little over obsessive about how my cards are in order by year and set. I think I will go with a few 3200 boxes. thanks for the great advice Luke

Currently, I've got roughly 125-130 cards between my 3 PC players. I'm in the process of getting my Crosby and Gretzky graded and slabbed by BGS. Otherwise, my basic minimum is penny sleeve, toploader, and team bag. Others are in one-touches and team bags. The slabbed cards are in individual team bags as well. Same goes for my traders. All are currently stored in a couple of 5000 count boxes. I do have plans to display them eventually.

I was wondering how everyone keeps their PCs stored. Right now for my Thorntons I have everything in penny sleeve and top loaders and the thicker cards in 1 touch holders. Then I put everything in a big 5000 count box.

I was wondering how everyone else does it to see if it is more efficient. Would especially like to hear from player collectors that have over 500 cards but even if you dont have that many please feel free to comment.

    lmk guys

    Exactly what I do (did?).

All the cards in the binder, are ordered by the year they came out, the set they're in, and number order if there were multiples from the same set. I just left spaces for cards I was looking for. Cards in the box are ordered the same way.

I used to tuck a little piece of paper into the pocket, with the name of the card I was looking for - and would do the same thing to leave a place holder for anything that wouldn't fit in the sheet (or was too valuable, and needed a top loader or one touch).

I reoganized a while ago - and stopped the place holders for cards I wasn't putting in the binder. There was little point... virtually everything made of Ranford since 2000 has been GU and/or Auto (Off the top of my head, only 4 base cards since then.... and only one of them has parallels).

ok now another question to the binder users. Do you keep the cards in a specific order or is it just whatever because leaving blank spots for my Thorntons will be tough as he has close to 3000 cards...

I have all my Kris Russell cards in one-touches (even base) and are kept in a 5000 count box in order (year, set, parallels from base to rare). All my doubles are just in sleeves and top loaders. I'm hoping one day to make some sort of frame for them all once I get my collection complete.

I might now go with the binder idea but Im not sure because I would need 331 pages to store all of Joe Thorntons cards and this is excluding 1/1s and not taking into consideration that there will be many more cards produced in the future

and another question for binder users, do you put the cards in a penny sleeve and then in the binder or just slide it in the binder?

I was pretty anal with my PC cards, all penny sleeves, top-loaders and one-touch holders...then I realized they are for my enjoyment and when I am dead it is not like they are going with me or will somehow put my kid through college ( an Islander PC isn't excactly a smart investment ) I just recently put my Dipietro PC into a hockey binder and have a lot more pleasure from it as it is sitting on my computer/gaming/sports room desk. I find I flip through it at least twice a day and notice an appreciation for the collection more. If you are thinking value wise then putting the gu/autos/higher-end RCs and inserts into binders may not be a great idea but if you aren't planning a early retirement from it and just collect for the pure enjoyment of it then try the binders.

I also have two frames up that hold 20 auto cards each. Again, just plastic holders (no sleeves) and of course many years from now the sun will probably fade the autos, even on my Nystrom SPX Spectrum auto /5, but I do get to look at them every day.

As for penny sleeves in the pages, I don't do it except with the champs mini stuff as they seem to slide around without them. the cards don't look nearly as good as when just put in the pages.

I guess it is to each thier own, but for me I am really liking the Binders.

Binders can be great if you store them in a place that sunlight and dust won't get to them. Then when you pull them they are ready to visualize and show to friend.

When I was younger, I had everything in binder (double in box). I had around 50 binders. I still have 35 today as I took all proset stuff out of binder at some point.

Now if you don't keep moving card around all the time, you keep them out of sunlight and dust, it's possible to keep your card in great condition.

If for instence you add the cards as you go at the end of the binder and once a year, you reorganise them, you avoid many manipulation. The more you take then in and out the more change you will bend a corner. But they are yours and if you can live with possible corner chip once in a while then it a way to show them better.

I am 48 today and rarely will show card to someone since my friend aren't card collector. More often then no, it here with my inventory online that I can show them. SO the box are a lot easier to keep organise all the time and maximise the safe keeping in mint condition. Then when trading come up, I know the card is in good condition. I usually place my damage cards as PC. So if they got in the box mint, I can expect to pull them out mint.

Since you seem younger, binders is easier to view them and share with friends. Maybe it would fit your situation better.
