PWE Murders another PC Card
Sometimes you find a card that is not necessarily rare because it is low numbered or in high demand it’s simply hard to find because it’s a SSP parallel that people don’t take the time to post up on ebay or other sites. In this case, it’s a 09/10 Champs mini green back parallel. Normally 1:120 or something packs. I’ve yet to see one since Champs was released. I noticed when a product is released everything is up on ebay immediately. Then the next release comes out and the old stuff rarely gets posted anymore ( also being summer doesn’t help). This doesn’t really apply to high end product, GU’d, and auto cards since people will always post these because of the demand. It happens to low-end products and most parallels (i.e. artifacts or collectors choice). Well I finally found a green back Bobby Ryan card, won it at $7.50 dlvd and got it today. Sad to say but $3 in S/H from Manitoba Canada gets your card in a PWE, a small toploader, and wrapped in the champs box cardboard. My card was transformed into another parallel… mega creased back….. it’s in the collection for now….. But really, 1) Get some decoy cards around that toploader, and 2) You saved 50 cents by shipping in a PWE vs a bubble envelope (less if you reused ones like I do). Now I messaged the person and let them know what’s up and that I was disappointed in the packaging. I’m not going to leave neg. feedback because I don’t believe it’s warranted for a low-end card and something that was partially out of his/her control. Though, I will mention the poor package in my feedback. So I ended up leaving the ball in his/her court to see if he/she wants to help me out on a refund but should I push harder for a refund, or a half/half refund, or something else? I’m not going to make a huge deal out of it. If it was a bigger/rarer card, trust me, I would but I would also ensure the card is not going to be mailed in poor packaging. Here are some crime scene photos. UPDATE: He provided me with a full refund.

Unless the seller apologizes and offers you a refund...
Absolutely 100% without a shadow of a doubt, leave a negative. It doesn't matter if you pay $1, $3, or $20 for shipping - a seller is responsible for taking necessary precautions to ensure that you receive your card undamaged. That's the standard we hold people to here at SCF - just because it's a relative inexpensive eBay purchase, don't hold them to any less of a standard than you would if you were getting a Bobby Ryan Cup Black Rainbow 1/1. That seller was negligent with their shipping practice and in an attempt to cut corners they ended up costing both of you. Hit him with a negative and file a chargeback.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

IMO, if they give me a full refund I'd neutral. Anything other than a full refund gets a negative for sure. I'd never deal with that person again though. Can you post the ebay sellers id?

Well he provided me with a full refund.
RGM, I understand your point. But playing the lawyer's point (ebay rules I guess) he never really stated that he would ship the card in a bubble envelope nor did he mention he would protect the card with extra cardboard. Insurance was never offered, but being shipping internationally, the cost would be inefficent for this type of card. I think this is why I'm reserved on leaving negative feedback to some degree. Maybe neutral, but it kind of depended on his response. I feel kind of torn. I'm in a good mood today since my GF is back (visiting family) so maybe it's just carrying over.

I really hope you'll find another Green Back one day!
Similar thing happened to me last year; my Voracek Fleer Ultra Gold RC came torn like that. I did find another one a few months later but still, I was so angry. I most of the time put decoys in my team bags since then.
Seller did give me a full refund and I left him a positive because of that. I think some people are way to harsh on neutrals/negatives...

It might have come out of the pack that way. From all the Champs boxes I've opened, 2 green and most of the red backs (Including a mini dubi
) have been heavily creased

Well at least you got your refund. That pretty much closes up the case, IMO. Good on him.

There is a way to ship a card to protect it when using a white envelop. I build a crib of cereal box gauge cardboard around the card. Then firmly tape into the card. I re-inforce the corners outside with packing tape and I reinforces all the edges with packing tape.
I print in red..."Photo - Do Not Bend Or Fold!" on both sides of the envelop. I also charge $1.00 less than if I used a bubble mailer. Bubble mailers don't work with a hoot if you package is dropped and a Canada Post Truck drives over it.
Now this guy shipping you a card in a PWE without taking necessary steps to protect it like I have outlined? Not good...
If he does not offer to pay you the full price, PLUS additional money for return shipping, as it's his mistake not yours, then....
I would Neg Him until my fingers bled.

Agreed. The PWE part of the equation shouldn't even be the most upsetting part of it all. Those regular top-loaders are so flimsy, that card might have been damaged in a regular bubble mailer had it been treated the same way.
People should always try to use some sort of cardboard protection device (I know a lot of people opt for the decoy sandwich tactic, and it's a favorite of mine, as well) whether they're sending in a bubble mailer or a PWE. I've never had a problem with a card that had the decoy sandwich taped on. It just makes sense, you know?

what's the alternative one can use if no one has decoy cards? We can only get them if we break boxes.
